totally agree.

Replaces the jewson outright?
Championship race as opposed to a hcap was my take on this..? |
By:
jewson gets renamed and run the day before
|
By:
still having the 2m 5f novice h'cap chase as well as this new race
|
By:
isnt a bad idea the Rsa is a race which can end a horse its left its mark on many a horse and maybe the owners who skip cheltenham due to this and go to aintree instead will now enter there horse for the above race.
it obviously doesnt help for ante post betting but i for one belive this race could add to the festival. |
By:
No Kauto that is 4 races for novice chasers, without the National Hunt Chase or whatever it is called now, diluted the racing big time!!
|
By:
It can't be often a racecourse adds a Grade 2 race that will end up being a Grade 1 and is accused of dilution.
|
By:
Kauto Kauto Totally agree that the RSA has finished many up and coming novices, but by adding this race its just going to be crazy trying to find out were our fancys are going to turn up,
Last year Long Run was entered for Arkle,Ryanair - RSA and if this was had been on im sure he would have been entered up in this as well and were just in the dark as to were they are going to run after all were only the poor old punter Takes away the Ante Post excitment for me now as I like the AP betting on cheltenham races, now i expect 90% of Arkle Entries will be in the new race and at least 60% of RSA entries will also be entered ....Proberly 25% will have all 3 entries MR W Mullins is going to have A field day with 3 races to mull over for MDArgeant - Quel Esprit just name 2 ...............once again Pathetic The jewson is beinbg renamed I believe and being run on the Tuesday Leave cheltenham Alone Y FIX SOMETHING THATS NOT BROKE ..................... |
By:
In fairness there is already a 2m 2.5m and 3m novice hurdle so we will now have parity with that, but as has been pointed out it will bring a virtual end to antepost punting on the novice chases. How long before they introduce a 2m2f and 2m6f "championship" ?!
|
By:
What extra races does everyone think they will introduce when they go to a five day festival?,Mares bumper for me.
|
By:
ruined antepost and will probably ruin the RSA imo. A lot of horses will drop down to the new race.
|
By:
Already said on another thread VECTIS, 2 mile cross country probably coming soon ffs.
|
By:
Egg and spoon race round the parade ring on the Saturday last race nap!
|
By:
A 5 furlong race with 3 fences in it, to suit the front runners who don't stay 2 miles up the Cheltenham hill.
|
By:
Vectis, the answer to your question is that they'll re-run all the Grade One races but with a "Le Mans" start.
|
By:
Maybe a 2m Hunter Chase
|
By:
FFS I thought they'd done away with the old jewson - the hcap and replaced it with a graded race.
Talk about watering down quality. Arkle and RSA fields will be halved. This is all gearing towards a 5th fkn day!!![>o][>o][>o][>o] |
By:
I can understand having the 2m4/5f hcap for novices - it probably takes some of the dross away from the Arkle & RSA like the Fed Winter to the Triumph. Also it leads onto the PP & Boils hcap chases over the same distance & CD respectively the following season. But a graded 20f chase is just b0ll0x!
|
By:
Have to agree. Kiss goodbye to antepost betting on the Arkle and RSA Chase
|
By:
Arkle and Sun Alliance were 2 of my better ante-post bets, but wont be touching them now till nr no bet!
|
By:
RIP Ante Post Betting on The Arkle - RSA also no way will I be having A Ante on the new race..............
How long will it b b4 some bookie goes £100k Bonus if u win the The Arkle or RSA and The new race at the same meeting Horses that run in the arkle will I reckon also show up in the new race should they be ok even without A bonus.... Pathetic |
By:
I echo your sentiments stevo1.Although the festival should be embraced with all it deserves,a 2m4f novice chase is not a great idea.As many people have mentioned the 3mile event will suffer.
|
By:
Leaving punting aside for a minute I'm not sure running novice chasers over 3m at Cheltenham pace is particularly good for any horse as has been seen by the poor record of horses going on from the RSA over the years. I'm not sure the Arkle will be affected the way you think and I'm more inclined to think it will be the RSA that suffers. Can see it being left to slow dour staying types who don't get the 4m trip of the NH chase which will make it a safer race imo. Classy NH horses with a high cruising speed who genuinly stay 3m as novices are few and far between and I'd be much happeier to see these type of horses lining up over half a mile shorter.
|
By:
The poor record of horses going on from the RSA over the years ??
Not that old chestnut. Denman,Alberta's Run,Tabolgan, Looks Like Trouble, Florida Pearl. |
By:
Muirhead a candy for this race now I expect after today
|
By:
totally agree wasteful race. dont want to see average novices either at cheltenham - the place is a stage for greatness not run of the mill novice chases this has the potential to be plus it takes away from the ante post aspect with some horses going easy route before gold cup following year, i.e. would kicking king have run in this? probably.... war of attrition maybe too? (although he was beat he rn for ante post doc's) plenty of others might not have turned up in their respective races... the arkle has always been such a fantastic race i hope this does not take away from it and nor the rsa. both fantastic novice spectacles.
|
By:
aware also kicking king was beat too but second to superstar well chief. thisthatantother was jolly think that yr and both kk and the latter named who has fav cud easily have gone to this new race.. would the arkle be left in good shape then? no. def not.
|
By:
We have the Ryanair, why not a 2.5 miler for novices that isn't a handicap
Great idea imo. |
