Anyone know if this is being aimed at Champion Hurdle. Came good in last race at Punchestown last season (recording a 10 second quicker time than Solwhit and Hurricane Fly). Entered at Chepstow on Saturday.

Think 50's is a big price (just snatched a load now 42's is best).

i wouldnt run him in that handicap at chepstow if i was evan williams. Needless to say hes on a high mark(top weight) and could easily be beaten off it

There was a small piece in yesterday's RP saying he was more likely to run @ Cheltenham on 16th than this Saturday @ Chepstow.

Evan Williams trainer of Champion Hurdle winner does not sound right?
Report revedesivola October 6, 2010 4:37 PM BST
agreed. Maybe class 4 hurdle at fontwell

Bit like Tim Vaughan lots of very average horses running for poor money, but have lots of winners in poor quality races bit like Martin Pipe started though?

A very likeable horse.
Triumph hurdle winner bar a last hurdle blunder.
If he progresses he'll put it up to them.

Agree down gives all,but surely will find at least 3 or more to beat him come Champion Hurdle.
Think what poster stated 42 is under-priced imo?
But wont be laying at such prices?

42s is low enough agreed.
Depends what he does at the weekend should he run. I'd be shocked if the price doesn't go out when the big guns appear. No need to panic yet.

CryDOWN can vouche for this... i was all over him in triumph at 80's down to 40's.... needs fast ground imo...wouldn't touch him on anything other than good. Underrated horse that will make sure the champion (if he goes) will be a truley run race...if he were mine i'd say him till Punchestown again... he was really really good last year

I think the horse did enough at the Cheltenham festival and subsequently last season to make him of interest wherever he turns up this season in the two mile hurdling division. I agree about the better ground being important with the horse and possibly Aintree or Punchestown would suit more than Cheltenham in terms of landing a big prize.

I thought the way Barizan ran in the Triumph helped sort the chaff from the wheat among those chasing him. I think it was a good indication of Soldatino's class that he was the only one to really look like closing the gap. You could say Barizan was an unlucky loser after making a less than fluent jump at the last, but errors towards the end of the race are always going to be likely with this one given his all out style of running. Soldatino may need more than two miles to be seen at his very best (as he matures, at least), but my admiration for Barizan also makes me very interested in Soldatino as a longer term project perhaps (not necessarily a horse to follow this season with any great conviction, or certainly not until we see a bit more of him and can make a better assessement).
