pardon gunner
Report TD_Gunner September 11, 2010 4:36 PM BST
Said before the race they were going hurdling Howdi.

May change their mind now.
Report baracouda30 September 11, 2010 4:52 PM BST
Hurdling yes, but not next year I think they said.

Were talking about flat next year.
Report RyanWe September 11, 2010 5:03 PM BST
That sucks if he doesn't now go hurdling, sort of wish he ran a decent race without putting those plans off Sad
Report deadloss September 13, 2010 10:51 AM BST
Would be a good Novice Hurdler but dont think should go for Juvenile contests. Had a hard season. Give him a nice break and then aim him for the Ballymore (Neptune)
Report Desmond Orchard September 13, 2010 11:08 AM BST
Sounds crazy, but I'm not sure he would be quick enough for the top 2m hurdles. The good flat horses that have translated well have tended to be the 10f-12f types rather than further. Istabraq and Alderbrook being the two that come to mind.

One word:

Report Just So September 13, 2010 2:21 PM BST
Not sure Istabraq is the horse to illustrate that theory Desmond - two flat wins were over 14f and 15f (also ran in the Fujiyama Crest race over 2 miles, last leg of Frankie's seven).
Report Desmond Orchard September 13, 2010 2:32 PM BST
I'll take your word for it Just So, dunno why I thought that, must be some other 3 times Champion Hurdler i'm thinking of Laugh
BTW, I loved you round Aintree, proper little battler, nice to be reminded. Thanks.
Report Wayward Lad September 13, 2010 2:36 PM BST
My opinion is that connections have seriously under-rated this horse, and I reckon the St Leger form is top-notch. His half-bro sold for US$250,000 in March (before this horse was even on the radar) so the breeding lines are now very valuable. Plenty of staying blood in the pedigree, the horse could be a great out-cross for the majority of the decendants of Northern Dancer as he brings together a few unfashionable bloodlines. A Group 1 win over 12f next season will see this horse worth £3+ million and there's no chance it will go hurdling. I bet Gosden is already pencilling-in a 4yo campaign with the Arc as the ultimate target.

Fair play  to you Desmond!

V kind comments - I still think I'm going to get back up after the Elbow every time I see a replay - that pesky Miinnehoma....
Report ribellaro September 13, 2010 6:12 PM BST
Sorry to be such a pedant, Just So, but I think Istabraq ran in the '95 Gordon Carter (and was 5/2f) which Fujiyama Crest also won. A year before the magnificent seven.

Going to Evan Williams for his hurdling career isn't he

Report 3132 September 13, 2010 6:45 PM BST
20/1 for CH 2013 and 25/1 for 2012.

Evan Williams seems to be the owners NH trainer it would appear.
Report Dooberama September 13, 2010 9:37 PM BST
Royal Gait won the champion hurdle after running away with the Gold Cup.  There can't have been many classier recruits from the flat in my time.
Report Just So September 13, 2010 10:51 PM BST
fair shout ribellaro...
Report downallstar September 14, 2010 1:11 PM BST
Stupid thread.
Report Can't Catch Me September 14, 2010 2:41 PM BST
Evan Williams?

I find it staggering that anyone with a hurdling recruit as exciting this would send it to him Sad
Report TD_Gunner September 14, 2010 4:16 PM BST
