Tyson Fury beats Deontay Wilder with a seventh-round TKO

Beaten Deontay Wilder: "The best man won on the night. My coach threw in the towel but I'm ready to go out on my shield.

"I had a lot of things go on coming into this fight but it is what it is.

"I just wish my corner would have let me go out on my shield, I'm a warrior. But he [Fury] did what he did and there's no excuses."

Joshua gets messed with even more because there's no un-predictability there with AJ, fury said Wilder was the more difficult opponent because of that only

AJ is a very one dimensional fighter. Wilder always had that one punch power, but tonight he was getting nowhere near to being able to use it, looked done after 2 rounds.

'A masterful, controlled display'
Tyson Fury beats Deontay Wilder with a seventh-round TKO

Mike Costello

BBC Sport boxing correspondent in Las Vegas

Tyson Fury did what he said he would do and what so many doubted he would do.

He dominated on the front foot, showed why he decided to put on so much weight and why he decided to change trainers.

It was a masterful, controlled display, swiftly dispelling fears about his ability to operate at his best at 19st 7lbs.

Tyson Fury is “almost sure” he will face Deontay Wilder for a third time rather than Anthony Joshua in an all-British four-belt unification fight that would crown an undisputed heavyweight champion for the first time in two decades.

The contract for Saturday’s blockbuster rematch called for a 50-50 purse split, with Fury and Wilder each guaranteed $25m in addition to a cut of the pay-per-view receipts. The deal included a rematch clause which gives Wilder’s team 30 days to exercise their option for a third fight, where the purse would be divided 60-40 in Fury’s favour.

Fury expressed confidence a third instalment with Wilder will be next, suggesting it be staged at the new 72,000-seat NFL stadium presently under construction along the Vegas strip.

“The spoils of war have just happened,” said Fury. “I need to enjoy this victory and Deontay will need time to recover from the fight, but I’m almost sure that he will take a rematch because he’s a dynamite puncher. At any time he can take somebody out. With that danger, then you’re always in a fight. I’m pretty sure we’ll run it back again if he wants to. But if he doesn’t want to, these are my promoters and whatever they want to do, I’m happy with. Whoever’s next will get the same treatment, that’s for sure.”

He didn't trade with him which was the impression (wrongly) I got when he said he was going to KO him and bully him, he still boxed his ears off and tactically took him to pieces, bullied him like he said

Shocked at how comfortably he beat him up to be honest, Wilder looked a beaten man by round 3 or 4, he looked done in and had no answer and because of that the power had gone by round 5 anyway

Report Tiger Tiger February 23, 2020 7:58 PM GMT
It will be interesting to see if his team takes the option of a third fight, the promoters will be pushing for it as technically its 1-1 and a decider will be a big draw and money spinner, (even though we all know Fury won the first fight) 29 days left of the rematch clause for Wilers team to decide.

I think Fury wants the third fight, he's already suggested that it will be at the 72,000 seater NFL Stadium under construction in Vegas.

It gets better now he's saying his trainer was influenced by Anthony Dirrell a boxer who is trained by Sugar Hill Steward who in turn is Furys head trainer. Dirrell is alleged to have shouted out to Wilders corner to stop the fight several times and Breland caved in. Wilder is a bigger piece of sh1t than I gave him credit for. Breland was damned if he did and damned if he didn't if Wilder had serious effects from the pounding he was getting. He should man up and accept he was given the beating of his life.

I think Fury must have always had the ability to knock people out he just never shown much of it before, probably been part of his strategy not to show too much power in the early days otherwise he would have almost certainly been avoided by Klitshchko and company. Fury is a very good boxer that can hit hard so a big no no in the eyes of many.

A lot of talk about Fury and AJ I think there is two ways this can go Joshua can avoid Fury for the next couple of years and hope time gets the better of Fury or he just  takes a big pay day and fights him now and retire.

Well done Fury backers. And Fury himself!

Would be interested to hear any views on the likely odds if Wilder takes up the rematch?

Should the market ‘learn’ from this fight that the genius of Fury being heavier and more forward, and Wilder being exposed on the backfoot, means It hugely tilts in Furys favour and he should be heavily odds on next time?

Or did we ‘see’ the highly successful outcome of a more even Fury gamble, shortened fight, sht or bust, either look like a genius for being more aggressive or look like a mug for going headfirst towards the big right hand coming from the car park, either way as long as we dont have to go to bloody judges again. ?
