Until I see him say it I'm doubtful.
Report Geesyerdosh January 24, 2014 4:16 PM GMT
Wants more money, he knows there is nothing out there for Froch, the Chavez fight is a joke and won't make nothing and he'll make millions from the Groves rematch.

As it stands it's probably about an 85/15 split offered so just a matter of haggling now. Fight will happen.
Report joe9000 January 24, 2014 4:44 PM GMT
Classic Hearn tactic, make poor offer which will obv be rejected, then run to media and mug off whoever turns it down. Quigg - Frampton all over again
Report Topboys January 24, 2014 5:30 PM GMT
The IBF have ordered an immediate rematch. George Groves on Twitter:

"Oh Dear! IBF order IMMEDIATE rematch with me and @Carl_Froch ... Maybe I was right after all turning down that 'amazing' 7 figure offer haha"

"Now everyone understands @Carl_Froch press release today.. Wants to move on? Hold on honey IBF says #NoNoNo #RematchOrVacate haha"

So the rematch will happen and I think the cobra will win again. Then GG will be in the ****.

Report alabaster crashes down January 25, 2014 8:11 AM GMT
The rematch looking more and more likely with all this back n forth. Groves has been available at 2/1 and bigger for ages.

Froch will finish him sooner next time for my money.

Anyone who says the Chavez fight is a joke must have an agenda. The build up to the rematch is going to be a nightmare so much **** talked already. I try not to let things outside the ring affect my opinion  but groves has totally lost me as a fan with his constant moaning and petty snipers.
Report happyhibee January 25, 2014 12:09 PM GMT
None of them have came out with any credit. Groves with his constant whining and Froch who's opinion of himself gets more and more inflated every time he is interviewed

Cant stand Groves. The way he's acted after the defeat has been nothing short of shamefull. Hope Froch takes him out in style this time.

Report sj January 25, 2014 7:41 PM GMT
Got to say imagine if you've been robbed and that's what he was of everything you've worked for. Then you have to put up with nonsense with Froch. Fair play to Groves Froch needs to be taken down a peg or two. He's gone from Boxing Warrior Hero type to footballer everyone look at me David Brent
Report Jimmy Diamond January 25, 2014 7:48 PM GMT
I cant have it as a robbery sj. Premature stoppage but robbery is a little strong maybe. But whatever your views on the stoppage i think GG has acted like a spoilt brat with this constant whingeing and moaning and abuse of Froch. It wasnt Froch's decision to stop the fight, he just did what he was doing and it was out of his hands..........Groves needs to grow up and realise he didnt quite manage to put Froch away and was sliding towards a defeat........have some class George because your way past sounding like a complete prick.
Report blackburn1 January 25, 2014 7:50 PM GMT
I'm with sj ( which he knows is a rarity) froch has been a warrior and was brave as a lion against groves but he knows he's past his best.

Only problem I have with groves is his football team

Cool
Report alabaster crashes down January 25, 2014 8:58 PM GMT
Froch may be turning in to David Brent but he's earned it. Time and time again he's proved himself in the ring...I just think it's disgraceful the way people have turned on him after all the entertainment he's provided. Groves is clearly more talented at expressing himself verbally and he's used that to belittle Froch at every opportunity...I find it uncomfortable to watch...he's like some sneering kid in a classroom. This from a man who's best clear win is arguably Paul Smith. I think at the moment he's benefiting greatly from the good old British love for a loser whereas Froch is suffering from the build em up and knock em down syndrome.

Anyway getting away from all the personality stuff, which after all is meaningless in the end, I'm convinced Froch is going to win the rematch handily. Froch may be past his best but the first fight has pretty much convinced me that Groves cant take a tenth of what Froch can hand out. I think Froch rather foolishly had zero respect for Groves's power and paid a huge price for it. To walk on perfectly squared up to that huge right hand completely scrambled Froch and really it was a miracle he survived never mind got back into the fight. Groves's problem now is that even in that condition, fighting back from the precipice, Froch was able to make him unravel remarkably quickly. Personally I expect to see a more sensible opening from Froch, and for Groves to find himself in real trouble before the half way mark when he feels the extra weight of the shots from a Froch that hasn't been caught cold. Of course Groves has power of his own but for all the right hands he landed none of them massively troubled Froch apart from the one he charged into..will Froch be as careless again? I doubt it very much. Nailing my colours very firmly to the mask on this one...with the Ref likely to be extremely hesitant to intervene Groves could be in for a career-changing beating.
Report Jimmy Diamond January 25, 2014 9:28 PM GMT
Great post alablaster. Totally agree with everything in the first paragraph and also with your analysis of how the rematch will go.

Froch will probably beat him if they fight again. But I wanna see this fight just because of the hope that Groves can spark him.
Report alabaster crashes down January 26, 2014 6:15 AM GMT
its allright to say he's done what fighters should do fight the best so what

the point is he's one of the few who's actually done it!

"You know me I'll fight anyone"
"George Groves"?
"You know me I'll fight anyone"

And he has fought Groves. And almost certainly will again. I find it amusing the forums are full of people calling him a coward and a ducker...are they all going to eat their crow when he does take the fight? There is no argument there at all.

And as for this cobblers of trying to make out the Chavez fight is big, I nearly fell off my chair

Of course its a big fight, you've got to be blinkered against Froch to pretend otherwise. Plenty of people have been mentioning the fight as a possible option for a couple of years. Yes, the Vera performance has taken a little of the gloss off it but nevertheless Chavez does huge numbers in America...the vera fight drew HBO's biggest boxing audience of 2013. Lets face it ANY time a british fighter headlines a main event PPV in Vegas it's a big fight...madness to say otherwise.
Report happyhibee January 26, 2014 12:42 PM GMT
The bit that made me laugh was on SSN he says he wants to go to Vegas and fight as all of his fans have told him they want to go to America? Does he think he now has a following like Hatton or something? He'd be lucky to take 4 figures out to Vegas to watch him
Report sj January 26, 2014 1:24 PM GMT
It isn't a big fight here's why. It wont sell out. It wont do nowhere near the gate Groves would do in fact Id be surprised if it sells out whatever arena its in. No man on the street knows who Chavez is. Americans are a lot tighter with there PPV, and yes Chavez did do big numbers but the problem is mate it wasn't PPV. British fighter in Vegas? Khan anyone Laugh fancy a 2 for 1 ticket?
Report alabaster crashes down January 26, 2014 2:49 PM GMT
You're just telling me why it isn't as big a fight as froch groves mate...well no fight is, it would be the biggest British fight in years that's why everyone including me wants to see it....but that doesn't  make Chavez a joke or nothing fight. It's actually a fight I've been wanting to see for a couple of years...huge US exposure for froch in a very winnable fight that would very likely be entertaining.

Of course Chavez Vera wasn't ppv, but I'd bet that negotiations are being based on froch Chavez being ppv, whether that be a double header or not. Even without it you can hardly class a normal HBO audience of 1-2 million a nothing fight. Yusaf mack was a nothing fight...beating up HBO s golden boy and building up a possible golden finale against ward or golovkin is not a nothing fight in my eyes. But no, let's see him rematch the man who doesn't give rematches first,  I've a feeling groves will end up wishing he d let sleeping dogs lie.
Report sj January 26, 2014 3:22 PM GMT
He got his exposure when being beaten by Ward, Chavez fight wont give him anymore exposure. Chavez is a laughing stock, imagine if he turns in another stinker V Vera. Golovkin or Ward then Froch for me would have some sway but JCC come on now. I don't see Groves regretting anything and I was firmly in the Froch camp in the first fight but he's fast becoming a pain in the harris. Couple of gems from Ringside

"What about Frankie Gavin Carl"?
"Yeah have to be good to medal at a world amatuers(surely he'stalking about Gavin's Gold?) I remember getting a bronze"Excited

Yeah Carl not about you mate could we talk about Frankie

Froth is a complete tool.i used to give him his dues for the fights he's taken and what he's achieved with his average boxing skills. However in the last year or so this bloke is beginning to get on my nerves. If he's asked questions in an interview he keeps repeating the same old s hit which doesn't actually answer the question given to him.The one time when he was on ringside last year was the icing on the cake. They said isn't it great Carl that there are so many British fighters in 50/50 fights. This egotistical moron responds with yeah I'm sure a lot of these young fighters have seen me in great battles and look up to me and maybe thats why there are so many 50/50 fights.I'm carrying the torch,I'm on crest of a wave blah blah blah shut the fcuk up you helmet.I would love to see George stop him to bring him back to reality but unsure he will.

Totally agree with you chaps. I used to be a fan of Froch.  If he wants to fight a middle weight why can't he fight GGG? He's been in some good fights and his record looks great on paper but I've always found him horrible to watch personally. And the way he patronised Groves after their fight in the interview confirmed my view that the bloke's a ****

Great post Alab couple of says ago completely agree with everything. Frochs ego may have got the better of him last time in him getting caught flush and I can guarentee he won't make the same mistake again. I can see why people do dislike Froch, but the vast majority of these people would have been hailing him a king after the Bute/Kessler rematch.

The worrying thing for Groves in my opinion is that he boxed out of his skin and still could not get the job done against Froch who for the majority of the fight was recovering from the knock down. He might prove me wrong and win the rematch but one thing is for sure, we're all looking forward to it!

Knew Groves was the better man before the first fight but had a terrible feeling it was`nt going to be his night.
I know he is in a different league to Froch as a boxer & feel that this one is going to be his night..... in a big way.
Report Horangi. April 1, 2014 4:20 AM BST
Have to re-watch the first bout but from what I remember I'll be stunned if Groves loses.  Simply put Groves is too fast for Froch.  Second time around Groves should be able to handle his nerves a little better and fight a bit more sensibly.  The early knockdown might have hurt him in the end thinking a knockout would eventually come if he traded.   There's no need for him to go toe to toe, he can outbox Froch easily.  A knockout may still come anyways.

The odds are fantastic for Groves, I give him a 65%+ chance of winning.
Report builders April 1, 2014 9:50 PM BST
I'm with you Horangi.  Only thing that Froch has over Groves is conditioning.  If Groves can mix it up and box smartly then he should win.  Got a feeling that there'll be a big gamble on Groves that might even see him go off odds on.

Reckon its all change this time round, out with the old in with the new.
Cant take anything away from Froch he`s used up all the talent at his disposal, nothing has gone to waste, hope he enjoys his retirement.
He will do away fine as a pundit with Sky Sports & will no doubt enjoy spending more leisure time at home.
Report joe9000 April 3, 2014 3:58 PM BST
Oh great Froch as a Sky pundit Crazy

Sky need to start employing pundits who have some semblance of neutrality about them, this strategy of getting high profile ex pros don't work at all imo. Bad enuf that Sky will lean towards all their boxers in the build up to big fites, even worse when their pundits have been involved with matchroom for example and blindly back fellow matchroom fighters even when realistically they have no chance.
