Anyone else think Lopez is a bet here?

Understand he's going up in weight but fancy he'll carry more of a punch to 147 and will have the power to trouble Victor. He's tremendously durable, much better chin and heart than Ortiz, has never been down from what i can see so i think he'll be able to handle the heat.

He beat Jessie Vargas on my card last time and on the flipside I just don't know what Victor Ortiz has really done. He's had a rough couple of outings; the berto fight was brutal and the Mayweather knockout, because of how it was delivered, could prove to have some long term damage.

6-1 seems a silly price, a typical pricing up on name and basic look at the record from the layers. Terrible match up this for Ortiz, got it all to lose against a game oppo who might just take it from him.

Thoughts gents?

I should hope Victor wins seen as they have already started to promote his fight with Canelo on Mexican Independence Weekend Laugh

If I was to have a bet it would be lopez because of the value but I'd rather stay away as lopez can be outboxed. Can't see lopez gettin a decsion in a tight fight but u can never be sure. No bet for me. Maybe a few quid on lopez ko 6-12 for interest. I wouldn't be shocked to see ortiz get a close points win as lopez is durable
Report Duketurtle • June 22, 2012 3:54 PM BST
Probably gonna need a knockout with the Alvarez fight in the pipelines premier but we've seen it before haven't we, JMM getting stunned by Salido ahead of the built up Gamboa showdown for instance

Really like this kid, he's done well against southpaws, last 2 defeats have been seriously questionable and i like to take the durable over the chinny, especially at 6-1 when the outsider has got a decent shot on him. Ortiz gets a close one no doubt but i'm happy to have a decent go on the outright, ko and draw to cover. No market for him to score a knockdown that i can see?
Report carlos monzon • June 22, 2012 5:34 PM BST
Y dnt u lay the ortiz ko tommorow. I think u can lay at 1.7sh tommorow.

Ortiz on PTs at 7/5 with pp.

Draw on betfair is 36/1 but should be greater (50/1) tommorow.

Don't see Ortiz as chinny really. If he weighs in at 164 on fight night like he did against Floyd then I think questions will be asked of Lopez's durability. Ortiz is such a head case it's hard to back him with much confidence, especially at such short prices.

Wouldnt put anyone off backing at 6-1 V Lopez Duke I'm sure nutcase Victor is still on the "list". The thing would put me off backing Lopez is the Vargas fight he outballsed him. I'm not sure he's a natural Welter. Good luck Duke

Ortiz looks massive, putting me of Lopez a bit even at the prices?
Report Duketurtle • June 23, 2012 1:14 PM BST
Yeh Ortiz looks a whole lot bigger and will be even more so tonight. I've had half my planned outright stake on Lopez so far, not sure if i'll invest the other half after the weigh in!

Nice one SJ, 'got' Victor so to speak with the Floyd KO but he still remains on there. I just can't have him, don't rate Berto who dropped him a few times, besides that win I don't see anything to write home about. Nate Campbell? Crying off against Maidana? Rocked and troubled by a much lighter version(for whatever reason) of Lamont Peterson who he had at his mercy early on.

Just hoping Lopez has got more power at the new weight, you don't need much to stun Victoria. He's maybe not so much Chinny as he is unstable when he gets hurt. He doesn't seem to know what to do when he gets caught with anything flush.

Lol, can't believe he didn't even try and continue, someone needs to show him the tape of Abraham vs Miranda, so much at stake as well, could of lost the last 3 and still got a decision

Great call duke, hope you had your full stake in the end.

The size difference put me off having a decent bet but had a few quid on the stoppage.

Don't ever sign a contract to fight canelo. The next guy to sign will probably have an airplane fly into his house at this rate.

Well done Duke, hope you put a decent wedge on.

Have to laugh at Golden Boy, sticking to their guns about the ppv date and then Ortiz goes and loses, Schaefer will be screwing.

Ortiz is just a disaster though, hard to see what his next move is aside from a rematch.

Hope Lopez gets a decent fight now in the meantime, wouldn't surprise me if it was Khan.

ortiz should retire now... mentally hes beat for good
Report carlos monzon • June 24, 2012 3:49 PM BST
Not sure but I think ortiz broke his jaw or at the very least hurt it as it swelled up after he went to hospital.

I went to bed thinking ortiz was a quitter as he had a cut inside his mouth but I I was wrong.

Well done to ortiz for calling it a day last night to fight another day. Sensible decsion. U can't and shouldn't be allowed to fight with a broken.

Good call by sottos corner. The guy was gassed badly and had nothing left. Must say iv just watched the fight several times and there was 1 right from matthysse in the back of the head in round 2 which visably hurt him and could have turned the fight. Wasn't on purpose but should have given sotto more time and maybe a point deduction because of the amount of damage it did. Few seconds later he slipped/knocked down at the end of the round, which IMO was the effect of the back of the head shot earlier in the round.

After he got hit with that shot he wasn't the same, his shots never had that power.

Wats happning to the guys who r scheduled to fight alverez, is he doing vodoo magic or summit. Here's his last 3 opponets, one is paralyzed from an motorbike accident, others busted his shoulder and a busted jaw.

Black magic I say

Good call Duke.

Must admit i didnt follow because i couldnt see Ortiz getting beat. Victor is struggling for places to go now.....his second coming came after Maidana and its hard to imagine him  re-inventing a 3rd time. Wouldnt be suprised to see him take an extended break from the ring.

lucky win duke

Victor Ortiz suffered two fractures in the right side of his jaw during his action-packed welterweight fight against Josesito Lopez on Saturday night, underwent surgery Sunday and remained hospitalized at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles on Monday, manager Rolando Arellano told ESPN.com.

More on Lopez-Ortiz

Josesito Lopez didn't just take down Victor Ortiz, he also managed to shake up the boxing establishment, Dan Rafael writes. Story

In what he termed his "Rocky moment," Josesito Lopez forced everyone to stand and take notice of his work, Arash Markazi writes. Story

Arellano said Ortiz, a former welterweight titleholder, suffered the initial fracture during the fifth round of the bout but continued fighting until Lopez inflicted a second fracture with a clean left hook in the ninth round, after which Ortiz retired on his stool to give Lopez the major upset.

Arellano said that Ortiz's surgeon inserted a titanium plate in his jaw along with three screws during the two-hour operation. Ortiz's mouth was also wired closed and will remain that way for about two weeks during what is expected to be a six-week healing process.

Ortiz, however, is already thinking about his next fight, Arellano said.

During a visit with Ortiz on Monday morning, Arellano said Ortiz wrote down on a piece of paper "exercise the rematch clause" because he wants to face Lopez (30-4, 18 KOs) again, as is his contractual right, even though Ortiz likely won't fight for the rest of this year.

Ortiz (29-4-2, 22 KOs), who was fighting for the first time since losing his world title in a fourth-round knockout loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr. in September, was ahead of Lopez on all three scorecards at the time of the stoppage.

Not sure about luck mate, I didn't particularly back him to put on a clinic and win a UD on the cards. Fancied Lopez to come out on top of a war because his durability would eventually over come Ortiz' power and ability to take a punch. Think that's pretty much what happened isn't it?

Can't believe it was matched in the 800s, Lopez looked dangerous everytime he dropped his hands and chased Ortiz around even though Ortiz was doing some serious facial damage with those heavy power connects. Great fight, Lopez would be daft to jump up again to fight Alvarez though.

Thanks for the congrats lads, decided recently that i'm going to buy an item from each fighter who delivers a decent winning bet. Where the fck will i get a Josesito Lopez t-shirt? Confused

How about trying to win £750 over the next few weeks duke, buying an ibf orignal belt, get it signed by all the guys u can interview (top fighters only) and see the value in a few years.

Just picked up an ibf belt. Orignal, unsigned for 750. Had to go Yorkshire to pick it up so
no fee. Good value I thought. Looks wicked in the front room
