If a boxer quits in between rounds which round is the fight deemed to have finished? the round just passed or the one about to begin?

If a fighter doesn't come out for round 8 (just as an example), then it is a round 8 tko.
I'm pretty much sure of that.
But i only have the one example to go by.
When Brian Nielsen fought Mike Tyson waaay back in 2001. Brian didn't come out for round 7, and every where you'll look it will say that the fight ended by tko round 7.

Meant, retired - round 7.. not tko, obviously.
But still i'm pretty sure that if a fighter quits before coming out for round 8, then it will say that he retired - round 8, and not round 7.

Pretty sure you'll get paid out on the 8th. Good work
