This stallion has had a fine start to his career mostly from mares some way adrift of top class, so as his fee has doubled I hope he gets better quality mares from now on..
Very few of his progeny have raced in UK, and those few have not shown much so far.. the only winner is Island Bandit, which won at 125/1 in a Newbury maiden for Heather Main last summer, then disappointed after.. a couple of placed horses, but all his best have been in France, Germany and further East..
I think his best so far has been Purplepay, a filly who romped home in a conditions race at Arc weekend, could have won by 10 lengths, then really should have won the Criterium International at St. Cloud, unfortunately Maxim Guyon rode a poor race in my opinion, got terribly boxed in at the back and finished like a rocket in 3rd.. surely would have won that.. her final 200m time was quicker than the first 2..
Sold for 2 million Euros as Arqana now gone to the U.S. Which is a pity, I shall have trouble keeping up to date..
Times Square another good filly, 2nd in the Marcel Boussac.. in Germany Lizaid won the top 2yo fillies race... Parnac a promising filly won 2 from 2 and a colt called Lavello, who might have German Derby aspirations... for what it's worth Zarak is also the sire of the top filly in Czech Republic called Queen of Beaufay...
He has a number of promising maiden winners in France, but 2 I would put out there that I can't wait to see again are La Parisienne who won impressively by 5 lengths in a maiden at Deauville on polytrack, and Sabio Cen who scooted home on grass in a 1800m maiden at Fontainbleau.. the 3rd, a Fabre horse beaten 8 lengths, won next time out.. Sabio Cen is entered in the Prix du Jockey Club, might not be up to that but perhaps the Prix la Force coming up next month might be his thing.. originally with C. Ferland now with Christopher Head..
Zarak also has runners in the Middle East... just the other day he had an astonishing winner of a modest maiden at Al Rayyan, Doha.. a 3 yr old filly called Halawat al Rouh... she got 8kg off the others who were all 4 yr olds, and she won the race Zarkava style, by coming almost last to first, flying home in the straight... the mile really suited her.. She was ridden by Marco Casamento but previously over 1200m by Maxim Guyon who I suspect told them to up her in trip.. She needed all of the mile.. I do hope she goes on to better things..

Highwind got off the mark the other day, surprised he needs blinkers but he was quite impressive..
Today Crown Princesse ran a nice introductory race in a 3yo F maiden at Chantilly bumping into what looks like a really smart one trained by Fabre, Pensee du Jour.. who has entries in all the French classics, which were published today..

Zarak is certainly on the up. The Aga Khan stud has him, Siyouni and Sea The Stars on their smallish roster. Pound for pound they are probably the strongest outfit in Europe. I don't think anyone would have predicted that 5 or 6 years ago.
Yes, I s'pose Siyouni is their best one..

Bo Zenith finally gets another chance today after some cancellations... can't see him troubling the Nicholls runner, so he has it all to do... I don't want to lose faith, so heart rules head unfortunately..

woo hoo !!.. a nice double up.. I got 7/2 Bo and 5/1 Sinbad.. at least we saw a better Bo Zenith on this occasion but unlikely to trouble Lossiemouth, especially with the 7lbs concession.

I wasn't expecting Iznik [12/1] to win at Cagnes today, but lady jockey Coralie Pacquet rode a fine finish to pip Maxim Guyon on the line.. too much to say she outrode him, Iznik pulled out all the stops late on, and she got the 3lbs allowance.. even so, I like this rider very much..
JC Rouget had 3 in the race, and this was his 2nd string... I liken Rouget to Gosden, in that where they have more than one runner, you can never be sure which is 'on song'..

In Time runs today Meydan 4.20 gr. 2 Balanchine... looking to get placed I expect, but had a nice run back last time after 6 months off, over a trip too short..
I think a good e.w. chance.. I took 66/1 yesterday as I felt she's better than an unconsidered outsider.. I notice this morning it's half that price and lo and behold the RP have tipped it.. lol..

Disappointing from In Time there today, every chance but faded badly.. not really up to this class, sorry to say.. backed right down to 3rd fav..

The unusually named Lofsongur Islande was a nice winner at Pornichet the other day..
This week is interesting for me..
I have both Purplepay [Haggas] and Times Square [now trained in Australia] both running in the gr. 1 h'cap Coolmore Classic at Rosehill, Sydney on Saturday, over 1500m..
There are still 17 in the race, only 16 take part.. right handed track, shortish 2f straight.. I've been to Rosehill and it was lucky for me then, so I hope it is Saturday.
Purplepay has been around, a long trip to make and Marquand is injured so a local jockey takes the ride.. I hope for a good show, I do think she has a chance despite the firmer surface.. gets weight from some of the others..

Zagrey!.. what a great run today at Meydan in the gr. 1 Sheema Classic, 3rd to Equinox.. this is what they went over there for I think, hoping for place money - half a million.. Great ride too from Soumillon, well placed throughout, and suited to step up to 12f..

went 11/4 on the sportsbook too. My £13 crushed it back into 5/2

Off topic, but thrilled to bits Billy Loughnane won the Brocklesby... no better way to start the flat.. I love his cheery smile and amiable demeanour.. he seems a lovely lad..and actually what a great ride that was to hold the horse together when it was wandering about and still got up..

I'm pleased with that return from Sabio Cen, running all over them with double handful but perhaps lack of race fitness told.. not great form, but he should go on to win some nice races from that.. surely a group winner in the making..

Suspected I had jinxed him. However collateral info is useful.
As I knew you were unable to sleep worrying about where a Gp1 winner was going to come from, I decided to review the candidates i.e. france-galop dbase of offspring.
Organising this in terms of known form, made me think that those at the top while tantalisingly close will likely fall short of a Gp1. I am not sure 2yos are Z's forte so am also ruling that out.
Oddly, RASHFORD would not have had to improve too much to be considered. However he was beaten on merit today. If he turned up for the Prix du Jockey Club, only pennies could be advised.
At this time, the only unbeaten Zarak in this dbase is Andre Fabre's MARQUISAT for Godolphin SNC who amazingly won on 2yo debut at Saint Cloud at the end of October. He is a big lump and while those behind have done zero for the form, he was actually just pushed out hands and heels when the penny dropped, to win handsomely.
GODOLPHIN SNC only have 3 entries in the Prix du Jock, all trained by Fabre. In addition, they have about a dozen Charlie Applebys incl Silver Knott who was 2nd to Victoria Road in the Breeders Cup Jue Turf at Keeneland. Those 2 are currently 2nd and 3rd favs on oddschecker betting for the PdJC, but are also well entered in the UK/Ire.
I think Fabre will throw his toys out of the pram if he doesn't get a shot at the race for Godolphin. So I am looking at his 3.
Birr Castle was 6th today in Rashford's race and does not look progressive.
Guet Apens won 2nd time up, again against modest opposition, but seemed more workmanlike.
THEREFORE, I am putting all the eggs in the MARQUISAT basket (Easter Sunday metaphor there). He has no upcoming entries, but is still listed as in training on Goodolphin.com. Worth keeping an eye on for me. Here is the link to his win:

FINALLY Marquisat is out of an unraced (I think) daughter of Duke of Marmalade named LA MARCHESA. Her 2018 filly foal Luisa Casati, by Vadamos, is listed class and was 3rd, 2 weeks ago in a Listed event at Saint Cloud, beaten a tete et un nez @ 48/1. I wish I had studied earlier
AND ABSOLUTELY FINALLY, if the above Plan A does not pan out, I am a big Adlerflug fan (just had a few quid on Alter Adler to pip Haya Zark). So following German lines the Zarak colt ARCANDI is in the PdJC and was 3rd in a Gp3 last time out. I can't forget my £2 antepost on Torquator Tasso 2 years ago @ 180/1. We nearly got ejected from the bar at Kelso races that day for singing the German National Anthem.
As I knew you were unable to sleep worrying about where a Gp1 winner was going to come from
, I decided to review the candidates i.e. france-galop dbase of offspring.Organising this in terms of known form, made me think that those at the top while tantalisingly close will likely fall short of a Gp1. I am not sure 2yos are Z's forte so am also ruling that out.
Oddly, RASHFORD would not have had to improve too much to be considered. However he was beaten on merit today. If he turned up for the Prix du Jockey Club, only pennies could be advised.
At this time, the only unbeaten Zarak in this dbase is Andre Fabre's MARQUISAT for Godolphin SNC who amazingly won on 2yo debut at Saint Cloud at the end of October. He is a big lump and while those behind have done zero for the form, he was actually just pushed out hands and heels when the penny dropped, to win handsomely.
GODOLPHIN SNC only have 3 entries in the Prix du Jock, all trained by Fabre. In addition, they have about a dozen Charlie Applebys incl Silver Knott who was 2nd to Victoria Road in the Breeders Cup Jue Turf at Keeneland. Those 2 are currently 2nd and 3rd favs on oddschecker betting for the PdJC, but are also well entered in the UK/Ire.
I think Fabre will throw his toys out of the pram if he doesn't get a shot at the race for Godolphin. So I am looking at his 3.
Birr Castle was 6th today in Rashford's race and does not look progressive.
Guet Apens won 2nd time up, again against modest opposition, but seemed more workmanlike.
THEREFORE, I am putting all the eggs in the MARQUISAT basket (Easter Sunday metaphor there). He has no upcoming entries, but is still listed as in training on Goodolphin.com. Worth keeping an eye on for me. Here is the link to his win:

FINALLY Marquisat is out of an unraced (I think) daughter of Duke of Marmalade named LA MARCHESA. Her 2018 filly foal Luisa Casati, by Vadamos, is listed class and was 3rd, 2 weeks ago in a Listed event at Saint Cloud, beaten a tete et un nez @ 48/1. I wish I had studied earlier

No one expects Zarak The Brave to beat the favourite in the 4yo hurdle at Punchestown, he's had a bout of colic and an injury, so will likely need the run, but I have a feeling his season may not be over just yet.. in 3 weeks time is the French 4yo champion hurdle at Auteuil.. Mullins has won this before with a horse owned by Munir/Souede, and it's one they target so I'm thinking that may be his ultimate aim.. entries for that race mid May..
At Longchamp Sunday I have a whole host of contenders... La Parisienne in the Prix Allez France, now has Soumillon aboard, they appear to have ditched Gerald Mosse.. distance a bit short, but very soft ground in her favour.. she really should win..

14.15 He deliberately took out BAUYRZHAN MURZABAYEV at the back of the peloton when his horse KHOCHENKO was done, costing me a right few quid on a 4-places bet on GAIDAR who flew home for 6th. Might be worth watching in case the French are taking umbrage at Murzabayev's success.

I just watched that h'cap where Peslier kept Murzabayev in, bit of race riding there, I've seen Hollie Doyle do similar and get away with it.. but probably cost Murz. a place, the way he finished..

PRIX SAINT-ALARY - CROWN PRINCESSE
A decent opportunity at the first Gp1 success and I have the tactics all worked out, having reviewed all the video form.
Hard to say JANNAH ROSE is not the one to beat. However the Gp3 win lto (7 ran over 1800m) with SEA THE LADY comfortably held in 2nd may have been a bit falsely run. The front 3 went off like scalded cats, and blew out, setting the race up big time for hold up runners. Having said that Jannah Rose had tactical pace and did not look short on stamina. I watched that replay trying to see if I could make a case for Sea the Lady reversing the places. Unlikely. Verdict there, Jannah Rose untroubled as the race played to her strenghths. Todays race and extra 200m and better and deeper opposition.
CROWN PRINCESSE's Gp3 win lto (8 ran 2100m) was her first on turf from 3 runs. Despite breaking prominently, she seemed to lack the pace to keep that position and drifted back to last turning into the straight looking caught flat footed with 700m to go. On straightening up she comes to life but suddenly there is a wall of horses in front. An unimpeded route at this point would imo have made her victory more eyecatching. Mendazibal waits and picks his way out wide before he asks for maximum effort. She delivers a sustained run from 350m. Actually looking back she was always a clear winner despite Elusive Princess getting to within 1/2 a length (re-opposes today). Heartache Tonight made the running that day and also re-opposes.
Today's race is a drop back to 2000m. Heartache Tonight is guaranteed to make the running. Anything leading her is going too fast. Crown Princess should run her race as if it were a match with Jannah Rose. Soumillon will be too cocky and head for a position held up towards the back of the field. Crown Princess if possible should try to sit 1 place IN FRONT of Jannah Rose wait for the 500m marker and duel it out as a battle of stamina. That seems to be a common trademark of the Zaraks and may win the day. Let's hope Soumillon finds a troubled run.
I will have a shilling on Crown Princess to win. No EW or place only for me but I will have another shilling on the forecast to be 2nd to Jannah Rose.

The front 3 went off like scalded cats, and blew out, setting the race up big time for hold up runners. Having said that Jannah Rose had tactical pace and did not look short on stamina. I watched that replay trying to see if I could make a case for Sea the Lady reversing the places. Unlikely. Verdict there, Jannah Rose untroubled as the race played to her strenghths. Todays race and extra 200m and better and deeper opposition.
CROWN PRINCESSE's Gp3 win lto (8 ran 2100m) was her first on turf from 3 runs. Despite breaking prominently, she seemed to lack the pace to keep that position and drifted back to last turning into the straight looking caught flat footed with 700m to go. On straightening up she comes to life but suddenly there is a wall of horses in front. An unimpeded route at this point would imo have made her victory more eyecatching. Mendazibal waits and picks his way out wide before he asks for maximum effort. She delivers a sustained run from 350m. Actually looking back she was always a clear winner despite Elusive Princess getting to within 1/2 a length (re-opposes today). Heartache Tonight made the running that day and also re-opposes.
Today's race is a drop back to 2000m. Heartache Tonight is guaranteed to make the running. Anything leading her is going too fast. Crown Princess should run her race as if it were a match with Jannah Rose. Soumillon will be too cocky and head for a position held up towards the back of the field. Crown Princess if possible should try to sit 1 place IN FRONT of Jannah Rose wait for the 500m marker and duel it out as a battle of stamina. That seems to be a common trademark of the Zaraks and may win the day. Let's hope Soumillon finds a troubled run.
I will have a shilling on Crown Princess to win. No EW or place only for me but I will have another shilling on the forecast to be 2nd to Jannah Rose.

Mr M.. good analysis... I didn't think he gave her the best rides, I'm not a fan of Mendizabal.. he lost his good position early then had it all to do coming between horses.. she was never going to get there..

No one expects Zarak The Brave to beat the favourite in the 4yo hurdle at Punchestown, he's had a bout of colic and an injury, so will likely need the run, but I have a feeling his season may not be over just yet.. in 3 weeks time is the French 4yo champion hurdle at Auteuil.. Mullins has won this before with a horse owned by Munir/Souede, and it's one they target so I'm thinking that may be his ultimate aim.. entries for that race mid May.

Mr M.. hope you were on Zara's Return at 22/1 today at Newmarket.. I was at 20/1 to finish first 7 as I didn't think she had much chance.. she did it well, I'm so pleased.. stayed on at the end..

Zarak gets his first gr. 1 winner with Zagrey in the Grosser Preis von Baden today, getting up last stride in what turned out to be a sprint finish. Zagrey from Zarak's first crop 2019..

Zarak's first classic winner although he's had a couple in Eastern Europe, not in the pattern.
He should get better mares, he does well with mostly very modest types.. Metropolitan's dam by Halling, was unraced, as was her dam.
I hope Metropolitan gets 10F, I think he will later on. The St. James's Palace Stakes likely his next race.
Zarak also has the best early 3yo hurdler in Nietsche Has, which I expect will end up with Mullins before the year is out.
Zaraks do not appear to do well in Australia so far, and imo, should not be sent there.
Zarak is now coming into his own as a stallion, especially in France.
