Golden Horn progeny are not exactly setting the world alight so far. They seem slow maturing and lacking pace to me but with a change in the mix of mares used, things could change.

To be honest I like him Sageform. I am sort of hoping his fee will fall into my price range. An 80+ horse would do me fine and I have a mare that would suit him. When they start off at his stud fee they have to be successful from the get go or they are rarely forgiven.

He is almost certainly over as a commercial prospect truehonch and I don’t know how much he is the property of the Oppenheimers still.
I am guessing not 100% but they still own a massive chunk for sure.

It might be easier for Darley to ask him politely to re-livery or maybe they won’t care as long as Hascombe keep sending over a barrow of feed every now and then!

If you want to use him I think you might be sending your mare to a different venue and maybe even country?

He has been a good shot to breed an 80+ horse, but is your mare as good as those that he has covered? Those very mares perhaps more used to breeding 100+ Runners by other sires.

A friend of mine who has looked at his CI index informs me he has done quite well with a lot of the mares he has had PotM, but of course as you say my mare wouldn't be as close as good as the vast majority he has had (I only wish she was!!).

Quite a lot of progeny rated between 100 and 110 but nothing that has run up a sequence and nothing has won more than £50k career earnings. Every time I see one of his win a maiden I wonder if this is the breakthrough but still waiting.

Well he eventually found a new berth. I still quite like him and his sales were pretty good last year. Hopefully he will have a good innings at Overbury.

It is really well disappointing that a horse so talented on the track should prove below par at stud. His future now lies as a jumping sire for sure, so maybe he can sire a really good 'un in that sphere.

In fairness he was short of a really good one. Nathaniel was going his way until Enable. It will be an irony if Haskoy turns out good.

yesterday a GH gelding won the Grand Prix de Deauville

Well since he's been 'retired' from flat duties, he has had Haskoy, Trawleman won the Ebor and Botanik yesterday. I don't know how much that means but it would be ironic (and not impossible) if a couple of G1s came his way.

strikes me as a rather hasty decision to give up on him when it's only his 4th crop that's hitting the course this year.

I'm not sure they had a lot of interest in him in the first place and I don't believe he got as good mares as he may have. Its a little academic I suppose but he may work out well for dual purpose owner breeders. I hope he does, he was a great horse.

Well just thought it would be interesting to update this thread since GH has moved. Other than getting his best horse yet and winning plenty of races his yearling sales to date are running at 8 sold, £290k max and median at £75k. According to a friend who knows more about these things than me, he is also upgrading his mares. I wonder how Overbury will price him.

I had a look at the mares he covered and was surprised that the vast majority were either themselves middle distance or from families steeped in it. Perhaps that has been the cause of his perception of getting slow progeny. There might be some mileage in sending speedier types to him at his new venue especially as an owner breeder, though a decent mare might get a commercial type.

Jumping stores seem to be making silly money these days but I suppose the stud fees are a lot lower.

A good week for GH. Haskoy and the Italian Derby winner. Gets decent NH horses as well. Not a bad dual purpose type (maybe the best around).
