I am disappointed that a horse officially rated the best in the world is destined to be 'only' a jumps sire. Crystal Ocean would have made a fine recruit as a flat sire in many parts of the world. This trend to have top-class middle-distance colts pigeon-holed as jump sires is deplorable, imho, and another undesirable side effect of 'the market's' obsession with sprinters. The news comes alongside that of the much-inferior Land Force retiring to Highclere Stud on the basis of a sole Group 2 success.

I was hoping he would stand in England. I may be off to Ireland next year if I can get across all the borders!!!

I agree. Its a nonesense to have a horse of his ability as a NH sire. Hopefully he'll do a Pour Moi and leave them with egg on faces.

Hes not going to get early 2 yo of course. More a stallion for owner/breeders.

Crystal Ocean fee set at E8k. Seems a bargain. I'd be sending some decent flat mares.
