They always say on the telly how important it is for fillies to win a race, yet here is one who's 'beautifully bred', being a daughter of Quiff who won the Yorkshire Oaks and failed by the width of a ciggie paper to win the St Leger, yet despite having got that all important win on her debut for Ralph Beckett, she was subsequently sold for relative peanuts at 10,000 gns!
She's bolted up this evening on debut for Ding Dong, but for whatever reason Juddmonte were happy to let her go for just a song!

Pedigree is NOT everything in this game despite how much tosh we hear spoken about it! Quiff is an enormous ugly mare who gets the same. She has been culled from the Juddmonte band as have a number of her daughters and none of them have appealed greatly to the market. Just sometimes an odd group of traits come together to create a racehorse that is talented despite looking like a bag of spanners. No one will rely on that type to be an effective conduit for success in the next generation though. |

If and when Plait goes to the paddocks, I won't hold my breath waiting for any of her sons to run in the Derby! Still, she would appear well bought at 10,000 gns given how she's won this evening (albeit from a 75-rated maiden). |
