If I told you I have a NH mare, with black-type up and down the page, from Grade 1 bumpers through Grade 1 3m Chases .. a very strong, commercial pedigree , but I wanted to try breed something that could possibly race as dual-purpose, basically to see if there's a potential Cup-horse in there,
Something that I could start out in bumpers at 4yo and, test the waters through the Irish Q.R. races and 1m6/2m 4yo+ Flat maidens, with the upside of a potential class Flat stayer, and with the backup of a quality NH horse.
What sire would you suggest ? preferably in Ireland, but not limited at all,
I quite like Dalakhani, primarily because he's tall and scopy ... and though he's a hard sell on the Flat he gets top-class performers with the right mares. In a similar vein, Nayef is one I think has potential, super-cheap, beautifully bred, loads of substance and tall! Those middle-distance horses are obviously coming down in price very hard, and I'm interested in what others are out there,
Beat Hollow seems obvious but I'm not so keen, basically because though he is racy and a stamina influence for the Flat he's only 15'3 which really puts me off the NH angle - where the good money is really in breeding proper chasers.
Fame and Glory could be one, and his foals were very good, but I'd like to see a few crops on the ground first.
Shirocco could be the obvious answer, covering both bases at Grade / Group 1 level and that's a strong argument !
I know the NH sires well, and I don't see the potential in an Oscar / Milan. I just don't see the upside to make a Cup-horse, even though Missunited was by Golan ...
So, really the question is from those of you who know the Flat sires well - which would appeal in terms of size, scope, guaranteed to stay, maybe take a cut in the ground, maybe progress with age,
You havent mentioned your mares pedigree but I'd definitely agree with Shirocco and throw in the likes of (some more proven than others and some just from left field!!):
Grey Swallow Black Sam Bellamy Dylan Thomas Sans Frontieres Notnowcato Lindas Lad Americain Sixties Icon
Keep us all posted with how you get on. Good luck all the best to you and your mare whatever you decide.

The dam comes from the Ribot line, and the grandam from Menelek.
A possible daughter to try from is by Presenting, though there is a very classy King's Theatre also (much more racy).

Just amazing how quickly Dylan Thomas fell from grace, though he seems to be getting a small few now.
Black Sam is one I know well and a good shout.
Sixties Icon is a good idea.

Jesus I don't know ... I still like Dalakhani, will see about price + availablity (he only covered 40 in 2013), also Shirocco is an obvious. Nayef is one I quite like, but would rather Ireland.
After that - don't know - would like something 16'1 at least, so do a check of the stallion books ...
