Is it my imagination, but are the fields even smaller than usual? They must all be high class derby types and waiting to take on better 2yo's. Maybe Mark Johnson (125 2yo's this year) has scared them all off.
The entries for this week don't look too much better. With all these 'commercial' types being bred, you would think the early season races would be mobbed.
I know the weather hasn't been great Lingbleed but MJ doesn't seem to mind and there is the all weather. A three runner race and a fiver runner race today again.
I think if I had a cheaply/sharply bred 2yo I would want it out quickly running against moderate stuff(which is what early season runners usually are), not waiting for better weather and all the decent prospects lining up to take you on. Personally I just think most trainers are lazy so and so's combined with a lack of savvy.

well haven looked a little more into it truehoncho there does seem to be a lack of 2yo's ,maybe they have been helded up by bad weather ,but that's a bit of stretch to have effected all of them .Coolmore have not run any yet ,maybe this weekend at leoperstown .

I can understand Coolmore and the likes, with their high class animals biding their time. Its all the smaller trainers with boxes full of Dandy Man's, Kheleyf's and Captain Gerrards and not having them ready at the start of the season that I don't get. I just can't believe so few trainers have been able to get them ready.
There is such an emphasis on 2yo breeding and horses getting prepared earlier for the sales I just thought there would be decent sized fields with trainers trying to nick a win with moderate ones. God knows some of these trainers could do with a winner or two.

Most of these horses are useless, run them now the owner finds out. How do you then stretch the fees out for another 6/9 months? I am sure you can an injury before they run and then say how unlucky mug them off buy another horse and fee income for next year keeps ticking over.

Eont, you are almost as cynical as me. In reality though I think they are just clueless, There was 20k (including +10) on offer for the Scottish Brocklesby and they had to reopen it to get 6 runners. Mind you the winner is a Coventry horse according to his trainer!!!

Inclined to agree with Eont, had a share in a 2-y-o some years ago and it had to wait until august for a run and was in the sales by September as useless but all the vibes before were good !

Yes Treetop, he ran well and was the best looker in the paddock as well. The race at Newbury yesterday looked good with Havard Man beating Sixth Sense by a length. I think SS had improved a bit from his previous run when he was beaten by Tribesman nearly 3l.
Through First Bombardment GM may just be the best.

Is Sixth Sense worth a punt today? I see he is Pricewise selection. I still think that Ballydoyle has been plotted for this and despite being a filly against colts, could be Group class at least.

SS was a great each way bet. I missed the 40's and 33's but got some 20's in the morning. By far the best of the British 2yo's in the race. I don't know why he was so big.
Ballydoyle is 25 for the Guineas. She won't be that price by October.
