There was a time when flat pedigrees often won the Supreme Novice, Champion Hurdle and Triumph hurdle but we are now seeing some apparently obscure sires producing the winners of these races. Douvan is by Walk in the Park who is by Montjeu, Faugheen by Germany by Trempolino and last years Supreme winner, Vautour is by Robin des Champs, a better known NH sire in France. He is by Garde Royale who in turn is by Mill Reef so in each case you don't have to go back far to find top class flat blood. Windsor Park by Galileo has just restored the balance for current flat sires by winning the Neptune.

The labels on sires is aload of nonsense isnt it ? There all sires of racehorses in my view. Just a few random decent horses early in their career then decides which direction sires head in. Myboycharlie now advertised on RP as a NH sire. Jeeez. ( not just cos i spent 30k on a filly by him ) :)

Koo, I agree that nearly all sires come from a flat background for the simple reason that the vast majority of NH (national hunt) winners are geldings but there are sires that are standing at a price that is designed to attract NH mares. My point though was that the sires of the Mullins big guns in recent years have been pretty obscure to all except those who study the French market and whoever buys these horses for Mr Ricci must have quite a gift. I was at Cheltenham on Tuesday and both Douvan and Faugheen look like big backward stores to my eyes and I am amazed how much speed they have.
A great indication perhaps of the gift Mullins has been able to win with anything. Be hard to know if they're edge is their ability to buy the right ones or just be the dominant trainer of recent times. Obv be a bit of both.
If the prices of PTP's were cheaper in my opinion wed start seeing more traditional UK sires have more winners as Mullins and Kirk would be buying that type rather than scouting abroad

Was reading something in owner and breeder that looked interesting. Well i think it would interest you. It gave the average rating of all the mares each stallion had been sent. Sadly it only gave the top 10 whos mares were on average rated 100. It does help good stallions remain very good doessnt it. Id love to have the ratings for some of the lower, unfashionable stallions to see what results they were getting against the average mares they got sent.
Might have to get the return of mares and crunch the data myself. Dont really fancy it tho if anyone else have the results

I bought Run Fat Lass Run the other day, another mare needing some cheap speed. Need to stop accumulating these broodmares, but thankfully Ive knocked the ones in training right down. Another for Mullins there, its like a one man show

No, keep nearly everything for myself. Inc the ones in training. If anyone wants a share in the horses in training they can have one, but i dont really actively try to sell them. Most of them are 100% mine currently.
