What other stallions are in that bracket Wilycayote?
I think so many stallions are never expected to succeed by the stud keepers, just one good season will do. Look at Coach House, withdrawn from a sale where he wouldn't have made much more than £50k (if that) and will get 100 mares at 2-3k. He just wont make it, but a profit from a foal could be had. **** way to breed though!! |

I don't have a problem with the less expensive stallions, it's good to increase competition for the big outfits that would otherwise get things all their own way. There are also plenty of examples of these stallions proving their worth; Kodiak, camacho, showcasing, big bad bob etc.

Wily I'm not sure we should beat ourselves up overly for the points you raise. The vast majority of stallions don't make it. It's a simple fact that means that for every Noverre that perhaps is regretted the vast majority never need be given another thought.
I suppose you could make a case for the status quo being all but desirable because Stallions still come from some odd places and the ones you mention above need to be given a chance so we can unearth the diamond in the rough. I've had a little trip to a well known outfit in Tipperary recently - certainly one with a massive turnover! - and it wasn't the obvious Derby winner that floated my boat, that's for sure! |
