I have just been told by my farrier that some breeders he knows break their horses in before the yearling sales. They say trainers prefer it.Is this true? If so is there any real advantage to it?
Load of bollox unless he's talking lunging and maybe long-reining. No-one I know would even consider sitting on a yearling pre-sales. The exact opposite is generally true of trainers, most have a system for breaking/pre-training and want the horses well behaved but otherwise uneducated so they learn 'their' way.
