when the progeny of a national hunt sire, Yeats, ( who hasn't sired a winner) can top a reputable flat sale.

I agree it looks off the wall TG.
Yeats has sired three European winners, in France, Sweden and Italy, but his main claim to fame in this neck of the woods so far is a Hannon 4/11 shot beaten in a Salisbury novice event. The above yearling was withdrawn as a foal at the Goffs NH sale last winter. No idea who the purchaser Lily Corporation is and it all looks very strange. I hope its not some greenhorn lured to its early death. Ramping up the price before he has stores also would look unlikely? Incidentally the previous sale-topper (100k) is George Herbert in training with Gosden who has a decent staying pedigree compared to the average page of Lily's new acquisition. |

The strong demand from British and Irish trainers and breeze-up buyers, as well as from the international market, continued into Day 2 of the Tattersalls September Yearling Sale and the best was saved to nearly last when Lot 566, a colt by the champion **** and consigned by the sale’s leading vendor, The Castlebridge Consignment, made €180,000. It is the highest-price given for a yearling at the September Sale since 2006 (€225.000 for a High Chaparral)and the second-highest achieved at the sale.
There were plenty of interested parties and underbidders included Ronan Griffin, Norman Williamson, Harold Kirk and Jim Ryan, but it was the Lily Corporation who was successful, adding to its haul of 11 others bought over the two-day sale. “He is a lovely horse and we were looking for a middle-distance type,” said Ananios Antoniadis of the colt from the Classic-winning family of Love Divine and Sixities Icon. Also: Day one of the Tattersalls Ireland September Sale saw young sires dominate proceedings with the day’s trade topped by a Tamayuz colt (Lot 128) who sold for €110,000. Offered by The Castlebridge Consignment, he was purchased by Lily Corporation – bloodstock agent Ananios Antoniadis standing alongside owner Konstantin Zgar, who bid himself and was thrilled with his new purchase. The persistent and thwarted underbidder was Ross Doyle. “We looked at the horses yesterday and we liked this colt the most,” reported Antoniadis. “He looks a real two-year-old type. He will be trained in Poland, but may move to France or England if he shows ability.” He is the first yearling to fetch a six-figure sum at the September Sale since 2009. Lily Corporation tried hard to buy Lot 280, a Mount Nelson colt, also consigned by Castlebridge, but this time came off second best at €85,000 to trainer David Marnane buying with Peter Kelly of Emerald Bloodstock. “This is a lovely quality colt, and is one for the yard,” said Marnane. “At present I haven’t got an owner for him. Let’s hope he is lucky – I went a bit more than I thought I would have to.” In total, Lily Corporation bought nine horses today, also spending €44,000 on a Dark Angel colt out of the Group 3-placed Think. Underbidders on this occasion were the Irish trainers Ger Lyons and Johnny Murtagh. |
