.....and on the subject of Danehill stallions does anyone else think that Camacho is top value at £2750?

truehoncho,I'd say imo Kodiac's results should improve in the near future because his books have improved with quality and so we can hopefully expect an upturn with his results. It's always a gamble as you know but he's one perhaps 'that' gamble might be worth taking.Have you seen the thread about Dandy Man?He's another seriously worth a punt next season.Always try to see what's ahead, what's going to be hot if your criteria is primarily commercial sales.
Tally-Ho stud does well with their sires they are very commercial, looking forward I can see Sir Prancealot will be very popular with his first crop, that said anyone who is wanting to buy mares this autumn could do a lot worse than getting ahead buying a mare in-foal to him.His sire Tamayuz is doing well and showing plenty of promise,Hannon has several who are doing well and perhaps a BM sire to look out for with Sir Prancealot would be Royal Applause as not only is his best sibling by Royal Applause Hannon himself has a nice one by Tamayuz out of a Royal Applause mare.Royal Applause would be a nice BM sire to end up with as he is very commercial easy to mate always keeping speed and precocity there, for commercial breeders that's always important.

And as for Camacho, well you can't forget him being a well bred son of Danehill who does get winners and a few classy ones too.In a way he could be a sort of poor man's Kodiac. He's certainly no disaster but 2k sounds better than his advertised fee to me at least.

thanks PD, and nice to hear from you. There is a mare in foal to kodiac in the july sale I may take a look at (48), which is why I raised the topic.

I like Camacho and if is fee doesn't go up I may well send one to him next year.

Camacho is an odd one for sure.

He's in with a fair ammount of goodwill at the moment and I too look at him quite positively.

But, and it's too bigger a but for me, 12 horses only rated above 90 for his whole stud career?

How is that going to sustain him?

Kodiac is at the Acclamation zenith right now. His 2yo's are following on from his bright start and they will be his best. His mare quality will peter back again after this crop so if you think he can keep amusing people when his output will perhaps drop from what, lets face it, is not a dizzy height - 8 only at 100+ and none 110+ - then go fill your boots.
But I urge you to be looking at him only in the -3k range before you do.

thanks PotM, I think you were saying that Kodiacs fee represents value at about £3k. He is currently listed at E7.5k, which I think is high as well, hence my post. I wouldn't be likely to send a mare to Ireland in any case, but I was keen to value him fairly as there is a mare in foal to him at the July sale.

thanks or the input and I take your point about Camacho's lack of stock with some class, but at around £2.5k, I think he's pretty good value.

Big fan of Camacho. As long as you send a good size mare, he gets very good lookers.

Enjoying seeing Dandy Man success. I wonder whether he can continue the momentum to the end of the season, people seem to have shorter memories than ever.

On the button there Wily!

According to March's edition of Thoroughbred Owner & Breeder, Kodiac has covered 186, 164 and 144 mares in the past three season.  The law of averages says he'll get something half decent sooner or later and while he keeps churning out 2 yo winners I think he will continue to be popular at the sales, although with so many to choose from anything you do breed will need to be the business to make a good profit.

Quote from Goffs today:

(Julie) Wood also struck at €12,000 for a Kodiac filly (441) from Catherinestown Stud.

"I had Sweet Cecily and Fast, both Kodiac fillies who gave me a lot of fun," says Wood. "I'm a fan of Kodiac and he's one we'll always look at - you know what you're going to get with him."
