In danger of becoming a 'forgotten' horse in my opinion, it will have been a long time since he raced when he starts his stud career next year. A good year for his sire wouldn't hurt his cause.

No danger of that - he already is.  Sure we talked about it was time to retire that thing at three (his only proper form was may/june 2011) let alone five after not winning in two years.  Makfi & Poets Voice could be struggling before you can even sell a foal.  Apart from that, his dad is £75k ;)

17 20k+ and therefore profitable foals for Fast Company, who to me is the ultimate in forgettable, and I'm not sure I even care anymore if anyone has ever heard of my stallion choices!

I think that Dubawi could do with a run of British and Irish top classers sometime soon to rev things up a little at his stratospheric fee. His best mares shortly come on line though so there's every chance.
Report truehoncho May 4, 2013 12:35 PM BST
it depends on the price. he will need to be cheap around £3k and he will get enough mares.
Report Wilycayote May 4, 2013 7:58 PM BST
Am I missing something hear...2nd in two Gns, by Dubawi, from a very successful family. Think he's a good option for those of us who cant afford his sire and cant get into Poet's Voice. Haven't seen him close up though.

Another group winner for Dubawi today.
Report truehoncho May 4, 2013 8:12 PM BST
not really a stallion family. I would expect better dubawi options to come in the near future. I like him at a cheapprice but if you go over 5k with him there are too many better alternatives under 10k  (unless your deadset on a son of D)
Report yer ma May 4, 2013 9:03 PM BST
Its all very subjective but if we are judging him as a racehorse imo he was at best a 110 animal who only finished 2nd to Frankel because he almost completely avoided the speed and take a look at Rod OConnors irish version - a low point in a increasingly ignorable race. Oracle 3r / high ruler 4th / Dan Excel 5th.  Take the point about Dubawi and Poets Voice but surely at the 5/6k they ask for this may be risky.  I too havent seen him though.  Bit dubious of the hannon / hughes views now given every 3yo of the moment is the best horse they have even ridden / trained - getting worse than AOB

It's possibly a year too late rather like Captain Gerard perhaps, but like Captain Gerard he is a son of of an up and coming commercial stallion with a sniff of class on his page enough to make you think he's possibly not a fluke. As for being a forgotten horse having a classy full brother this year in Fort Knox who holds some classy entries can only help keep him in breeders minds and potentially raise his commercial appeal ready for next year,he's not quite as forgotten as the mighty Delagator..........on that point of 'forgettability' does it truly make a difference I wonder? We all talk about a forgotton horse but do agents/trainers/pinhookers really forget and not buy horses by these stallions? It seems to me that Pot M' makes a very valid point above re Fast Company. I think that when it comes to the sales, buyers will look through all stock by the new stallions,if the individual is a nice enough type, which the Fast Company's were, then they will stay on the list.I have no doubts about that. They may have to remind themselves of what the stallion won and distance requirements precocity etc, but again the individual is the key along with sire line. I am not suggesting that a nice foal by an unknown son of Paris House is going to make you a fortune but a less remembered son of DD OD Galileo still might. Fast Company did well as did Misu Bond, neither were star runners but both were nice lookers, early types, by DD who was hot and importantly the foals looked the part. In short if Dubawi Gold looks as though he can get a good sort, and Whitsbury don't go crazy on fee [5k about his level imo] then I think he is not a bad prospect at all.  The Hannon factor will surely still help him the same as Harbour Watch, Lilbourne Lad, Zebedee etc. Standing at a credible stud like Whitsbury will enhance his claims, they will support him and ensure some of his foals sell well. I think DG has a similar profile to his stud companion Showcasing. Did anyone 'forget' him at the sales?
Report potentialmillionaire May 5, 2013 6:13 PM BST
I was at Whitsbury the other day and they certainly seemed excited about D G. Well they would wouldn't they?

I believe the horse remains the property of Andrew Tinkler? so I imagine part of the promotion budget/shape will be down to him which will perhaps be something to bear in mind.

I would think myself unlikely to use DG as it stands as he lacks real 2yo form and I think Dubawi is likely to remain unhelpful on that front too. I reckon that 'better' mares for Dubawi will see him heading to a later maturing ever increasing 'International' type of profile not necssarily relating a cheaper 'commercial' berth and if so how will reflect on his sons remains to be seen.

Incidentally I have used Delegator and have no regrets on that front. I love a sprinter miler and I don't particularly like pure milers for stud purposes. I rate his best form to be considerably clear of Dubawi Gold's. I think Timeform do too. I would guess a manageable size book for Delegator should stand a good chance of considerable Rabbah action and perhaps little Maktoum too. Andrew Tinkler might not match that for Dubawi Gold?

Any idea of his fee, if they set it around the 5k mark I personally think it'd be a terrible choice
Report Wilycayote May 15, 2013 5:28 PM BST
No idea of fee, but dont understand your point Black Sam. We're inundated with the likes of Zebedee, Lilbourne Lad, Sir Prancelot etc that run a handful of times at 2 against 110 rated opposition.

I think a horse by one of the best stallions in the world that regurlary came up against the likes of Frankel, Excelebration and ran loads of times is a far better bet IMHO.

wonder if Al Kazeem will be able to bag a big prize this year for Dubawi, although he is in a very different mould to DG.

Has anyone had a nosey at DG yet? My long term plan of Camacho for next year seems to have boomerang'd.
Report truehoncho July 14, 2013 8:48 PM BST
whats the problem with Camacho proxygene?
Report proxygene July 15, 2013 12:20 PM BST
He was 1 hour away but now he's going back to Ireland, which my maiden mare won't be.
Report truehoncho July 15, 2013 1:33 PM BST
that is a shame. I was also sending him a mare next year. why the quick return?
Report proxygene July 15, 2013 2:29 PM BST
His hidden talent is resurfacing and he was only lent to Mickley...

I was sending her this year but couldn't get her ready in time, hadn't signed a contract tho.
Report Wilycayote July 15, 2013 5:32 PM BST
Yeah, had Camacho on my list for next year too as I have a mare who's pedigree has thrown up a decent one by him this year. Will consider using his half bro (Showcasing) instead, depending on how they go at the yearling sales this Autumn.

poor Mickley, a rare case of too much success!
Report truehoncho July 15, 2013 7:52 PM BST
Wilycayote, I think Showcasing could be a good gamble for next year. He had more mares in his second than in his first year and you cold benefit from two years of a lot of runners by the time you have a foal to sell. I don't mind third (in this case fourth) season gambles if the price is right. I am hoping to get him for £2.5k, what price do you have in mind.

Due to Camacho doing well, I am optimistic about him getting plenty of winners and with the numbers covered he could turn out a decent one. Maybe we could get together and get a deal for the 2!

Is it a mental health problem caused by an inferiority complex?
Report proxygene September 23, 2013 10:50 PM BST
It might be a survival thing, prospect of covering my maiden or screw it I'm going home, 1st Camacho then DG.

Does anyone know of a stallion who is too slow to run away (without shipping out to Tiger Hill)?
Report truehoncho September 25, 2013 8:50 AM BST
I have just had a look at DG's form. You do have to wonder what muppet bloodstock agent is advising Andrew Tinkler. What an earth did they think they could achieve keeping him in training after 2011. Dubawi was so hot (and maybe still is) at the time, and with a rating of 117 he wasn't realistically going to improve on his G2 win. He could have had at least 200 mares in foal by now, and even at £5k (which he would have got easily) that's £1m in the bank.

I think all CV's should immediately be sent to Mr Tinkler. CV's particularly welcome from little green singing frogs with charming personalities.
Report Lairy Mary September 25, 2013 12:57 PM BST
I think it states the horse won't be covering due to a hind leg injury.  I presume the Bloodstock advisor to Tinkler is still Dwayne Woods?
Report truehoncho September 25, 2013 1:20 PM BST
Thanks Mary,

Found this in Owner Breeder April 2001:

[One of the biggest British investors in bloodstock in recent seasons has been Andrew Tinkler, Tinkler, who is advised by bloodstock agent Dwayne Woods, has only been involved in racing for around three years but has quickly developed a love for the game. He saw an opportunity to increase his purchasing of yearlings in 2010 when prices in the sale ring dropped. While the majority of his colts have been bought in the sub-£100,000 bracket, he paid 450,000gns and 240,000gns for daughters of Green Desert and Azamour with one eye on their breeding potential.
In 2009 Tinkler outbid Sea The Stars’s owner the Tsui family for Sugar Free, a 540,000gns Group 3-placed daughter of Oasis Dream who is in foal to Sea The Stars. Two years earlier he splashed out €570,000 on Dalasyla, a half-sister to Group 1 winner and Derby runner-up Daliapour.

Is he still investing to this extent?
