Anybody have any opinions on this stallion please, or have seen/bought any of his progeny?
He seems to have made a decent start at stud, and has a couple of G1 winners already as I'm sure you know.
Any thoughts welcome.

Yes, off to a very decent start with 15 stakes horses from his first two crops. Seems to get reliable sorts as over half of his foals have started as 2-y-os. A brace of G1 winners in there also, but he'll need to keep the stakes horses flowing to maintain a 20K fee - we all know how quickly even decent stallions can fall foul of fashion, particularly to each crop of first-season sires.

Plenty to agree with above.
He did though start off at a very high fee in my opinion so results were sort of in line with that fee, I am not sure he has exceeded by much. As he doesn't look to be going to hit the commercial 2yo market he has got to be pretty good to satisfy the owner breeder Selkirk/Singspiel niche. Realistically I think he will settle down in time to a 12k fee sort of groove and neither be fish nor fowl. It's a very close call though so I shall remain on the fence as he really can go either way. |

Good points but I think he will be a great sire.....not fantastic but plenty good enough all the same,I'd say he will commercially improve,he gets good sorts.I pretty much agree about Selkirk/Singspiel but perhaps a bit better than them say similar to Night Shift.

got a good price that day, was mindfull that it had been fancied in previous races. |

Actually, we've forgotten to mention perhaps the most salient point with regard to Lawman, that being the recent purchase of Most Improved by a little known team of cowboys down Tipperary way.
Surely a move that is worth any ammount of 'conventional' marketing the Irish national might put out! |

That is very true Pot'M. If 'The Boy's' are looking for an in on I.S and have chosen Lawman as a route then this must bode well. They recognise that I.S is one the new breed of top sires and a well bred son who is showing an ability to get Gr 1 winners is worth getting in on at the ground floor so to speak. I would not be surprised to see a few Lawman yearlings heading to those same Tipperary cowboys. If I happened to have a few mares in foal to Lawman in the paddocks, or maybe some Lawman yearlings grazing in my field I would not be feeling too unhappy....!

 a senior moment!I would wish anyone well if they have some youngsters floating around by Lawman and the odd mare in utero. Certainly would rather that than a host of Dylan Thomas's say! Can't think of anyone who might be in that boat right now though. . . You back properly now Prima? I'm guessing that Slick'n'Smooth is only prepared to miss so much of the foaling? Actually now I come to think about it, she could stay at home and foal mine and I'll keep you company somewhere in the sun  |

I can report I did say to Slick this evening that you had put forward the idea that she could spend some of her time foaling your mares to give you the free time to spend a holiday with me in the sun Her reply I must add was simply to raise her eyebrows!I'm sure mind if we did ever meet it would be a laugh.....I'm very good company even if I do say so! |

I am in no doubt that you would be very good company Prima - and everything looks rosy in the sunshine for sure!
I on the other hand am not a natural social animal so I wouldn't really wish myself on anyone. That's probably why I am so mouthy on here, instead.  |

There is an old saying Pot M 'the sun always shines on the righteous'so you can be sure everything does look rosy in the garden.I would have to say I am a natural social being........not quite an animal any longer but I can still surprise!You yourself one day may find out just how sociable I am,if I ever get the time and find myself a the same venue as you,you never know..........don't you think it would be funny to chat to each other all the time referring to each other as Pot M and Prima over a glass of champagne instead of T and T!

Wheels are due to come off my operation this year. I'm due a shed load of crooked fillies and 2 of my in uteros are just plain dull. Other one is a sh1t or bust job. A gamble that if it works it will work proper but lots to go wrong 'for me'.
I found matings last year to be truely difficult, perhaps largely due to a dearth of 1st seasoners. Also a lack of confidence in a couple of mares. This year I'm just about sorted and I've had much more fun becoming so. Anyone out there got any productive foalings to report? That stunning bay colt by a hot 1st season sire maybe, or a fabulous New Approach conceived for a song in his 4th year? |

Filly by POUR MOI ex SISTINE (SISTINE being a 3 parts sister to the dam of CAMELOT) Filly by DUKE OF MARMALADE ex AFFINITY (AFFINITY being a SADLERS WELLS half sister to SOVIET SONG) Colt by NEW APPROACH ex SISTER ACT (SISTER ACT being a full sister to SOVIET SONG, and who is the dam of RIBBONS, who won FTO out Kempton as a 2yo) It is SISTER ACT who is due to visit LAWMAN this year, hence my original question. I hope your foaling is going similarly as well.... |

Are thse Elite homebreds always destined to join the programme? I was just having a little sympathy vote for the 2:1 ratio of fillies and then I thought you probably don't mind as long as they look nice racey types. I haven't started foaling yet. I've got 2 nearly due, but as ever they seem to have different ideas! |

No, 'we' are very choosy about our broodmare band PM, and not every filly makes it or stays in the programme. A classic example being GENEROUS DIANA, who was sold, and turned out to be the dam of DANDINO! Her first few horses were a little disappointing, and she was sold.
We do have established families as you know (the KALINKA and FFESTINIOG lines) and why wouldn't we persevere with them :-), but SISTINE and CHINA TEA (full sister to the French stallion MADAGAN) have given us some bloodline diversity, althogh being a greedy so and so, I would like a little more. I was personally very disappointed we didn't add ALL AT SEA (a filly from on of HH Aga Khan's families) to our broodmare band (now there's a gentleman who to a breeding observer/enthusiast as myself, knows how to breed racehorses)but she only raced a couple of times before injury, and din't have any black type to support her inclusion. And of course, I'm not paying the bills (or very much of them anyhow). I wish you the very best of luck with your foals this year, and hope you breed a good animal or two.
