The fees were even worse for the USA.

You get the feeling unless they are offering heavily discounted deals for early bookings that a new business model approach may be being implemented.

Cashflow break even though I wold not put to much credance on the asumptions.

I commented on what I thought was excessive fees on here last year and this again is very strange hikes. Dubawi, Shamardal,Street Cry and Medaglia d'Oro are gone awol especially the last two who are currently ranked 30th and 33rd in the leading sires in the US at the moment.

Not exactly a small breeder friendly roster for sure.  GL if you are one of the nearly 1000 mares going to be covered by 30k+ Darley stallions.    Are there actually 1000 +30k yearlings sold in a year?   Don't see much value in the new boys - Sepoy prob fair, Helmet is a 6-8k horse all day.  Casamento is at least realistic.   I'm not rushing to the phone but they're probably full up already with Rabbah mares Crazy
Report potentialmillionaire November 14, 2012 8:04 PM GMT
I enquired into E and E a few weeks ago to be told he was due to increase. The distinct impression I got was that there was some disagreement as to by how much - they were able to reveal several other fees at that point - and I figured that the team perhaps were batting for a more modest increase.

Frankly I think all the above increases are out of line and I can't even be bothered to figure out which pisses me off most. Increases of £27500, £12500, £10000, & 7500 are frankly rarely justified and to infer that all of a sudden their stallions are flying all at once is a little foolhardy.
Report yer ma November 14, 2012 8:12 PM GMT
I've given up getting angry about rises PotM - let them get on with it.  I must have missed the majority of amazing E&Es, Raven Passes and Teofilos burning it up this year.   I was waiting with amusement what Cheveley Park would do with Dutch Art - now they can justify him at 20k no bother.
Report truehoncho November 14, 2012 8:37 PM GMT
These are stallions that I couldn't afford anyway but I think these hikes are deliberately set high. The likes of NA and T are Galileo stallions that they will want to use extensively on their mares.

It could also be that their ego is out of control convoncing themselves their stock is far better than it is. I know they are a global operation but they are not doing well enough here for the vast resources they have.
Report potentialmillionaire November 14, 2012 8:55 PM GMT
yer ma, all of their above horses are are out of range for me and frankly I think that only e&e is a safe bet as he is established and he does what he does consistently. I would like to use a horse that gets a ton of listed 2yo winners any time you like, but to pay 35k for the privelege. . . The rest I would be scared of at any price before a bit more water is under the bridge so as you suggest, I'm rising above it. I am not too offended by their 1st seasoners and Sepoy has been high up my list since he was announced.

What happened to King's Best, by the way? He was standing at 12K this year, has been a decent sire in France for a while too. I see Manduro (who I still think could be a decent sire) is on his way there.
Report Eont November 15, 2012 8:52 AM GMT
Coolmore's Ashford fees look much more sensible than compared with Jonabell. If the same applies ine Europe they will be very busy men, especially as there new sires hold more appeal on paper.

If Power can be set for under 10k he would be of great interest. Sire the height of fashion dam closely related to Footsstepsinthesand and many of those have a good turn of foot. They might be able to run a bit.

This is how the Darley sires performed at the yearling sales this year:
New Approach - 60 offered, 54 sold, £111,921 average, £76,698 median
Exceed & Excel - 53, 50, £59,689, £50,000
Teofilo - 79, 70, £71,617, £43,651
Raven's Pass - 14, 12, £158,520, £105,000
Dubawi - 65, 61, £115,968. £75,000
Shamardal - 71,60, £80,037, £57,540

The one who really stands out for me is Raven's Pass. How did so few make it to auction, he doesn't strike me as an owner/breeder type of horse?
Report jonnyrotten November 15, 2012 1:55 PM GMT
It strikes me that the yearling sales driven by dubai's ruling family, associates and to a lesser extent the coolmore mafia, have no relation to any financial constraint, they are primarily a smoke and mirrors exercise facilitated by the sales company's, its a dangerous game to play for people without the odd oil well in their back garden, the highs can be big but the lows are savage and its getting very expensive to put them into training if it did not go well in the ringSad
Report potentialmillionaire November 15, 2012 2:58 PM GMT
Only just over 30 foals JohnnyM for Ravens Pass that year. He is a crock isn't he and that was his major problem year and he covers restricted books now. I suppose that by the time Maktoum and Rabbah interests have been taken care of perhaps those who can get one will be happy to sky high it.

I think johnnyR that Darley are taking into account the big time Rabbah investments at this years sales and how they reckon that that offers an underpinning that is absent from the other players mid divisional produce.
Dangerous and Savage though are perfectly appropriate adjectives for the game though - no arguement from me there!

Cheers PotM. Those figures for Raven's Pass clearly demonstrate the laws of supply and demand.

Report potentialmillionaire November 15, 2012 5:47 PM GMT
I don't know Rabbah from my elbow truehonch, but they seemed to be busy enough this year again and I do think they offer a carrion collection to a certain extent for Darley lesser lights which is unmatched elsewhere.

La La land.  Untouchable but they dont need commercial breeders when there's a few thousand arab owned mares virtually tied in.

With Dubawi and New Approach they seem to think that huge median numbers from selling a couple of dozen horses equates to a logical ROI fee hike.  What about the other 100+ yearlings that didnt go thru the ring?

Probably the most laughable one is Iffraaj up to 25k.  Good luck making money there in 2 years time

They'll all get full books so me/us whinging is irrelevant.
Report truehoncho October 29, 2013 5:40 PM GMT
As already stated they don't need anyone's business, so their pricing is more of a statement than a business decision.

I'm disappointed they can't find a cheap and cheerful one for Dalham Hall besides Kheleyf

100k for dubawi and 80k for new approach.............absolute joke. at least when coolmore rise one up it is justified.
Report bert147 October 29, 2013 6:32 PM GMT
Are a lot of these fees just for show? An opening bid if you like. If you had the right mare (and were not connected with Coolmore or Qatar) would Darley fit you in for a meet with Dubawi for £60k? off the record of course.
Report potentialmillionaire October 29, 2013 8:40 PM GMT
If anyone ever wondered why we chase the young and unproven year after year then this is a pretty good affirmation of that policy.

Dawn Approach and Reckless Abandon are the safest bet there.

The expensive lot are beyond caring about frankly.

All too true PotM.  I had discounted all but Reckless Ab already.  I suppose Helmet at 8k would work if they look nice. Swiss Franc will have to be considered but he's a 5k job surely.

I've not been at this all that long but it seems options diminish rather than increase almost every year recently. I'm again trying to convince myself why Champs El would be a bad idea...can you imagine what Dubawi's full brother would stand at?  Dansili blew up in year 5/6.

I think the fact Dubawi offspring have the most graded stakes wins worldwide might have something to do with his fee.

Curious about this statement, do you mean this year, lifetime or the "9% Stakes winners and Group winners to runners" in his sale pitch by Darley.

Correct me if Im wrong but lifetime individual Galileo is at 80 and Dubawi is at 32 so Dubawis stakes winners would want to be knocking in multiple stakes victories and Galileos would want to be only picking off ones and twos for those figures to be turned around imo but im interested if that is the case.
Individual for 2013 is Galileo 19 Dubawi 15 so thats a lot more realistic

I'm glad Halling is not an option for you Proxy!!

I worry about you focussing on the 'best thing' for your mares at the expense of what the market will bail you out of.

Make sure you excersise the great art of compromise between the two as even the best laid matings are mostly duff and I want you to be able to twiddle and fiddle for a long time to come!

You need to increase your pension fund, not jeopardise it's very existence!
