Famous Name

I've always really liked this horse. Well bred and very consistant and genuine. Unfortunetely I don't think he will be very popular, probably end up as a NH sire.

Hopefully in Ireland there will be enough goodwill towards a popular horse to give him a shot at covering enough mares of quality to give him some chance.
I would imagine the get out clause in his flat stud career must be at the forefront of the INS's mind and their decision to have a crack.

Wouldn't we all like to have owned a horse like him? Probably a favourite of the handicappers too because he always ran to his level which made their job easier to rate his opponents. One of the most consistent horses in training in the last few years, but that for me is the problem. If he consistently failed to win a Group 1, will that lack of quality be transmitted in the breeding shed, and will he churn out progeny that fall short when it matters? And I don't see him as champion first-season sire material either. He's a delightfully honourable horse but just isn't sexy enough for this game, which is a shame because I do like him.

Agree with JM that he is probably not sexy enough and I think it's a shame he's gone to the INS too as I feel they always overprice their stallions.  If I was a serious owner breeder I'd love to use him (if the price was right) whether I was breeding for flat or jumps.  Likewise if I was breeding to race I wouldn't mind a broodmare by him either.

I am not sure that inability to win a Gp1 is remotely quantifiable with regard to genetic inheritance.

He is 121 rated so if that is quantifiable as what will be passed on then thank you very much!

The Gp1 win is a massive marketing tool and may well have a significant impact on the mares he receives sadly, but JM I can't see how a few lbs here and there - arbitarily awarded too - have much bearing on the chromosomal mix. I like to see solid form available on many occasions more than anything in a prospective stallion so if I was an owner breeder and liked him at a cheap fee (and surely he must be?) then go fill your boots guys. And Market Rasen will remain the next option if appropriate!

His dad did not win a grade 1 he is doing just fine at stud.

He has duplications of Northern Dancer; Blushing Groom; Natalma; Nijinsky; Ribot.
And the gaps between the duplications are filled with Derby winners and other good horses: Quest For Fame; Kahyasi; Roberto; High Line; Green Dancer; Vaguely Noble;Raise A Native; Buckpasser.
There is a lot of quality there.

Have to say thats what went through my head but was the Danehill/Hasili the decider in that.

I think it says something about the Industry that a horse retiring sound after 38 runs and showing such a level of consistency at Group level should be considered un-commercial(which I agree he will be) yet Breeders will flock to a an unsound horse that only managed 3 runs before breaking down and will probably stand for more money. Where are we going wrong I wonder..........
