From O'Rourke:
"He (Araafa) will stand in Ireland in 2013 - negotiations are continuing with two different stallion farms,". Two??!! What a bidding war this will turn out to be. |

He'll be going to stand as a jump stallion
And always when you start a business venture its a good idea to know who your friends are and who is not and importantly have in the back of your mind in business no-one is your friend!Sadly Plantation backed the wrong horse and I don't mean the equine verity!!!Still whoever buys the stud will get their hands on a lovely stud one of the nicest studs in NMKT. |

Are Coolmore going to be ripped off in what they give for Araafa as their Starspangledbanner replacement Johnny Mustang?
I hope that Kildangan don't get too carried away as underbidders ![]() Prima, I think Plantation could make a nice little base for your visiting mares over here. I've tried to learn a few ideas from the previous managment team, why I could even run it for you . . . |

Yes that's true a nice little place it would be indeed, and the best bit having you working for me.Oh my god I'm sure you'd be soon running back home if you did wishing you had never met me!But sadly for you I don't have plans to buy myself a base in NMKT.....I couldn't afford one
and before you say anything don't believe everything you read in the press, they always grossly exaggerate just about everything!![]() |

what was the perceived problem with the team they had? Ihave no connections and this is not a leading question, just an enquirey.

Portrait Of A Lady sort of sums it up for me truehoncho.
She presumably wasn't particularly nice as a yearling given a 12k sale price. With no pedigree updates but a listed 3rd to her name she became a 72k filly ex training. 12 months later still with no pedigree updates she was sold admitedly in foal to Montjeu to the agent for Plantation stud for 400k. The agent in question is always prepared to give a good profit to a buyer and I am afaid I am a little sceptical as to who receives the lions share of that profit. The inference is that many aspects of Plantations set up costs were considerably inflated through such types of deal. I ofcourse, couldn't possibly comment . . . Prima, I assume that such reports are usually exaggerated on the lower side. I have every intention to tap you for a bail out shortly. If I am wrong I shall feel a little like the subject of that Norwegian painting that I assume you purchased recently ![]() |

It does look great over the fireplace.......that man looking in the window yesterday later seen running across the lawn must of been YOU!And those exaggerated figures are nothing like the truth, pure fantasy!

did the owners of the stud have no experience in the business?

|
By:
Well every time you look at it it will remind you of me - on the drive home from Tatts

It already does......its a striking resemblance don't you agree?

Now I know why you stumped up for it - a good laugh at my expense!
Truehoncho, I don't know enough to comment further. Indeed a lot of what I say on here is conjecture. But that ofcourse is so much of this game! |

This “Portrait of a Lady” anecdote has pi$$ed me right off.
It’s just another example of the industry shooting itself in the foot. How can this industry encourage new people into the sport if selfish Ba$tards are going to take the opportunity to line their own pockets everytime they come across someone who is a little nieve or inexperienced. It’s not the first time I’ve come across this attitude in this Industry either. Some people seem to think its pefectly acceptable and a bit of laugh to rip people off. Nothing is more easily parted than a fool and his money. Well B0ll0cks to you if that’s your attitude. You’re not big, you’re not clever, you’re just a c##t! ![]() Brings back memories of the Foodbroker Fancy case. Also when agents get a budget from a client, finds a vendor, agrees a price below the budget, they both make sure it makes around the budget in the ring and split the difference. They then have the front to charge the client an agents fee too. This seems to be almost standard practice by some agents. Pr1cks! ![]() Sorry if this sounds like a bit of a rant but, well, it is. ![]() |

PP, I have been cynical about agents on here before, I know that a couple of them agreed not to bid against each other on one of mine once. But at this sort of money, surely you have to have a little idea of what your at.

Now it's ME who's feeling guilty.
I'm not presenting P of a L as actual fact, just an educated guess. Posh Paddy I am worried for your blood pressure, calm down dear! I am afraid though that we do need to be cynical as this is so prevalent and without doubt many people consider it an acceptable part of the game and maybe they are right. It has to be that some agents/trainers clients know what goes on with their money and are prepared to turn a blind eye as they feel that they are getting what they want from their advisor anyway. It maybe the way they conduct their own non racing business' so they expect no different and I suppose that is what a lot of agent/trainers tell themselves by way of justification. Fact is though that if you are new/naive then it's a minefield out there. But I am on record as never playing that game so let's hope they come shopping at my stall! |
