Following on from another similar topic, when would a mare be too old to purchase? There were two or three at Tattersalls that I had kept an eye on that were around 13.

Thoughts?

Well Doff the Derby foaled Oaks winner Imagine at 17.  I'd imagine you wouldn't want to push on much further than that.  Depends on the quality of the mare though. 

Having said that my mare is 19 (this is going to be her last foal) and has no black type or produced any black type but I live in cloud cukooland so it's ok.
