My favourite is " The Great Breeders and Their Methods " by Abram S Hewitt. The edition I have was published in 1982.
I have read it many times, and each time, I have found a little gem or two. It is out of print now, but I bought a copy on the internet, for a friend last year, so you should be able to find an edition. |

http://www.amazon.com/Blood-Horse-Authoritative-Guide-Breeding-Thorou/dp/1581501382 Tony Morris and someone else also did a book last year which covers most technical stuff which would probably be a good next step after the intro esp if you are breeding to race If you are breeding to sell, buy a lucky charm and hope for the best |

Treasures of the Bloodstock Breeders Review(692 pages)compiled by Rasmussen and Napier is a great read. Although not exclusivly a breeding book it has a lot of very interesting articles on breeders,stallions,mares,breeding theories and theorists. You wont be able to put it down.
