I find the input from the vast majority of contributors on this forum fascinating and very educational for someone like myself. More into the part ownership of horses over both codes in the North in the past.you feel sometimes that your partly on the journey with you guys when thinking about what stallion for what mare, the different mentality between commercial breeders against the owner/breeder type. Something I dont think I've read on here is the advantages/downsides of someone like myself investing in shares of a Stallion. Any thoughts on a investment of say 20k to purchase shares? Madness or what? Would I be wasting time/money or is this the private domain of the super rich
I know taking shares in a stallion is something that used to happen a lot as purely an investment midas7.
Back in the days of restricted books a shareholder was guaranteed to receive a pretty reliable income from their investment via the sale of their nomination.
Nowadays contracts allow for the majority shareholder to sell so many nominations of their own without giving a damn about selling a 3rd party's, which normally happened via the stallion stud.
I have a share in a stallion that isn't particularly successful and I can't see any way it would have been successful if I hadn't had the mares to send to the stallion to make money that way. But maybe a good agent can get more nominations shifted than I guess, on behalf of someone who enters a stallion syndicate purely as an investment.
I bought an independent nom from an agent 2 years ago which made it slightly cheaper, but it was a popular stallion.
There's some glaring gaps in my knowledge here though (yet again) so I will be interested in some more background too.

I just thought the thread would be a bit different from the breeders perspective to Stallion owners so lets bring it on and see whats forthcoming. By the way if I thought it could be viable/intersting I would seriously consider, but as you can see I'm coming from a zero knowledge of this side of the sport.
