Good luck to everyone involved with the commencement of the domestic Yearling Sales season tomorrow.
Some who started last week in Deauville made a very solid start - let's hope it continues!
I've an interest tomorrow so shall go for a look and to try and get a handle on the 1st season yearlings.

I think we are all going to need a lot of luck Pot M,not in Doncaster yet myself but I understand the place is like a ghost town buyers look thin on the ground.On another topic Fastnet Rock got 120ish mares this year at 30k reckon a reduction to about 25k for next year,Alfred Nobel 110 near or damn it,and did hear if the new Exceed and Excel colt with Marco Botti wins a GR1 this term then he's off to stud if not then he stays in training as a ball park figure I'd say 10k looks poss'.Thanks for the kind wishes...........we need to money!!!

Well PD I will there looking to buy 3 or 4. A couple of my trainers have giving me a fair report and quite a list to view. Obviously the vendors need to have sensible reserves. You may be lucky and get Hannon/Doyle competing against Hannon/Doyle.

I hope you don't get the last bowl at the soup kitchen Prima, just as I arrive  Heading for the German Guineas with Excelebration seemed modestly sensible at the time, but the fact remains he could be an Irish/French 2000 gns winner by now instead of a colt under pressure for a Gp.1 Alf Nobel gives everyone a chance at that level of mares, but with C being C the suspicion is that those numbers suggest a lack of quality interest? Keep hoovering up the news Prima! |

Seems to be going ok so far, some good results some sires selling well including yer ma's Kheleyf [;)]
Jeremy Kodiac and Monseiur Bond (who looks outstanding value at just 3k).Can't say they have gone mad so far for Sakhee's Secret mind. |

I know your not too fond of Kheleyf PD, but I cant help thinking at 3k he was one of the best value options this year. This years yearlings are the produce from his coverings after his first season (top 1st season sire 2008) and are clearly better than the last couple of years offerings. i would be suprised if he didnt get a couple of decent winners next year as well as his usual quantity of moderate 2 year old winners.
I think he has done very well this year with his 2 year olds considering they were concieved in his 4th season where he didnt get many mares (about 60 i was told). I do have a vested interest as do I with Monsieur Bond, but I think its a fair assessment. |

Didn't get there yesterday for as long as I would have liked but saw a few bits and bobs.
I gather that today is a bit stronger so we'll see. It still struck me as a bit depressing although it was good enough trade. It's a select sale after all and the majority weren't making money I would imagine. A small majority I accept but when you factor in pinhooks, dodgy deals etc. it's not a walk in the park. I imagine that Prima Donna is a little more pro Kheleyf right now truehoncho and you are right, 3k was surely a good punt this year at that price following his better book. |

PD wont be commenting as he's in shock/denial that Kyllachy and Kheleyf are commercial stallions after all. Only joshing - quite a few nice colts and good pages so should be making money. Its the 30k+ covers that dont look exceptional that nobody's going to overpay for (unless you own the stallion).

I thought it was a good sale for stallions under £10k. It just reinforces comments regulaly made on this forum, you either have to be at the top end or be operating shrewdly at the value end, anywhere in between is very tough.
I hope this forum keeps highlighting value sires, i think the next few years there may be plenty of oppertunities for such stallions with sons of dubawi, danehill dancer, oasis dream and the likes becoming plentiful. Its just getting the right ones!!! |

I have been doing plenty of naval gazing with these last 2 days giving out various signals. As someone whose glass is either full to the brim or so empty it rolls off the bar counter I've found all sorts of stats to beat myself up with. We can't forget though that this has always been a slight bubble sale with it's unique identity. I also think it is helped by the recent change to Goffs style catalogueing as the sale which has never relied on strong pedigrees gets to condense the few jewels on a page to ginger up the really quite ordinary. The fact is that if the Duke of Marmalades et al had looked as good as the assembled Kyllachys etc. they would have sold as well and in all probability better. The sale attracted terrific Kheleyf's but will not have attracted the best 20k sires, which is where Tatts and Goffs will provide the real state of play. But as is so often elluded to on here, those 20 granders provide the potential for a mighty bumpy ride! |

[;)]Yes yer ma it looks like you were right after all ,I was in shock...........at how well they both sold,I will let you into a little secret one of ours was by one of those two when it was selling I did think of you,we did pull it off mind and got a goodish sale.I do agree with your point that kheleyf needs a good one now(other thread I think)or he could be dead in the water sooner rather than later. |

Pleased for you, we can all agree that nice horses sold well and tend not to get lost at Donny unlike Tatts. The mare we lost was bound for Monsieur Bond (partly thru chat here) and probably the values been exposed for any foals on offer, so you win some you lose some.
