Goffs November

I was there for the foals and the first day of the mares yesterday where we purchased a mare. Sold a couple of foals the trade was strong for certain sires but some were dreadful. My father is there today and i was talking to him he said things were going bad which was to be expected for some of the mares that were entered today.

I was there all five days.Tuesday foals were moderate both ways.Better bred foals on Wednesday but quality was poor enough.Better bred foals on Thursday again on paper but quality was poor.Pinhookers did not get to spend their dough.Indians bought 80 plus mares yesterday but they bought better quality this year.They were not there today.It was a good chance to buy a nice mare or a well bred filly out of training.

Congrats on your new mare Rip Van. Very exciting. Did you manage to get something with a 'sexy' cover or have you compromised that for a nicer mare?
'Pleased' to see that sire power was all (yawn).
I suppose that most trainers/agents have now realised that they couldn't spot a racehorse if it bit their bollocks off, so they feel they have no choice but to present their clients with the latest 'fashion' to keep them sweet.

Thanks for your 'Indians' info Dubai. That certainly is a lot of mares. It's quite worrying if they come over here too, I was hoping to steal one! It is interesting that you didn't rate the foals much. Hopefully the strong trade for the standouts might encourage folks to strengthen their entries a little next year.

She has a good cover but that wasnt the main reason in buying her she came from a nice family not sure what we'll cover her with yet.

I saw a Rock Of Gibraltar filly foal at the sales during the week she was a nice foal compact with a good walk out of a mare called Bright Smile she sold for €16000 now she wasn't a bad filly her dam sold today for €1000 in foal to Intense Focus. Now i didnt see the mare but that goes to show how things are she wasn't ta bad purchase. Hugo Merry bought her so she's probably going to India and mares leaving the country is a great thing but there is value for anyone willing to start off. The mare also has a Kings Best to run. She is by Caerleon and from the family of Rule Of Law

A neighbor of mine brought up 6 foals...sold 5 and didn't even cover the price of 2 of the stud fees...he normally keeps around 10 mares....as he said himself all the mares are for sale or free to good homes and the lock is going on the gate.

Thought 3.5k for the Aga Khan unraced three year old Danehill Dancer half sister to promising 2yo Alanza could look cheap this time next year ...

Let's hope your neighbour can find a way of keeping hold of a few of his best mares. But cut, cut, cut, is the order of the day for sure.
