I have the opportunity to acquire Ruby Isabel,
a scopey grey mare by Great Palm and a winner of 2 steeplechases. She is a half sister to Valley ride who is a listed winner and her dam is an unraced half sister to Gold Cup winner Jodami.
As I am new to all this I was looking for some advice as to what stallions would be most suitable on the basis of producing an out an out chaser.
Any advice appreciated

I dont see the need to cover her with a horse that will get you a horse that will need 3 miles. I would recommend a horse that i have used a bit in the past is Germany. He is the sire of Captain Cee Bee, Conna Castle. Maybe anyone of the Coolmore National Hunt stallions

How would his stud fee compare to a stallion like Presenting?

I had a foal by him two years ago was ment to go this year again never went though as i sold the mare as part of a clear out to get better mares. Presenting is very expensive and i'm not sure you want to go in that deep at the start, germany is much cheaper.

South of England, looking for stallion who produces quality chasers with size and scope. Don't mind paying a bit extra for a decent sire, would like to breed another Jodami!!

By the way do you think this type of mare would make appeal at the sales, whether in foal or not?

Wouldn't we all like one like him. Well if your looking to get a big quality chaser then Kayf Tara is the horse for you others may disagree but he is top class but that also shows why is fee is quite high. I'm not very big into National Hunt breeding although we now have 3 mares again ( purchased 1 after selling the mare that had a germany foal before) But i would say that if you can find a stallion in England cause you should try and avoid travel expenses.

Some people think his price is a small bit high i dont really agree witht hat as he has now got better books so will only go higher in the coming years

If you use him lets hope you don't get a filly as they don't sell that well,over in England you only really have two decent jump sires the other being Midnight Legend who imo gets better looking stock he's I'd say on the up,Kayf Tara can get them turning out a bit you would need a correct mare with him if you plan to sell before it ran as a store for example.

I think yes she would have appeal she seems well enough related and being a chase winner from that family is going to help,like its been pointed out above as its her first foal and if you plan to race the resulting foal don't go crazy on the price as you may get a smallish first foal,BUT if you plan to sell the mare in-foal then maybe I go for Kayf Tara he is very commercial in the jumps game,if you did go down route then I'd sell her at Fairyhouse next November.

I was just looking at Kayf Tara thinking that your mare is very correct because if she's not he might not be the best to go for. PD its the same for every national hunt stallion none of there fillies sell well.

It is Rip Van that's a good point that formboy does need to think about,if formboy you plan to keep it for now then sell later on as a foal then either of those two would be good sires but as Rip Van Winkle has pointed out filly's never sell that well esp' in the jump market unless its got a top page and is a good sort Midnight Legend gets a lot of winners mares as well,if you are lucky enough to get a Kayf Tara colt then the buyers would be knocking your door down at the sales,as I said above in-foal to KT she should go well,living in England I still would bite the bullet and sell her over here next Nov'11,if would be worth the trip I'd say,obviously she herself needs to be a good sort,in-foal to Midnight Legend then if she where mine I'd be heading off to Doncaster.
