Whipper took a very long time to sire his first UK winner last season and ended with just 8 wins for the year. This time he is already on 27, 17 of those in July and August and almost all from 3yo's. I had rather written him off by July last year and was laying all of his runners but no longer.

I think because we have so many young, well bred stallions going to stud (particularly with the turnover of the Coolmore young colts) - we right off stallions too soon and if their first crop isn't stellar - well they have an uphill battle from there. Seems like High Chaparal may be another one who seems to have picked up. Apparently he is doing very well in Australasia at the moment. Suspect he may end up there.
I like Whipper and am glad he is doing better. Begin a grandson of Miesque was a plus for me and his sister Divine Proportions was excellent. He is a flashy looking horse - if a little lightly framed. I thought he may get good fillies but didn't think he would impart enough bone and substance to be a great sire of colts. But think he may be proving me wrong. |
