I've been saying this for years, that Coolmore were going to have a major speed problem in years to come, and it looks like the bosses are starting to agree.
Montjeu & Galileo won't get you milers and as much as they tried to give a leg up to Footstepsinthesand, he just hasn't delivered. Mastercraftsman, being by Danehill Dancer means they cannot use him on a lot of their brood mares. Same problem with Holy Roman Emperor (by Danehill).
With the acquisitions of Starspangledbanner & Canford Cliffs they will be able to inject some much needed speed into their bloodlines, with the added bonus of the outcross blood.
Shrewd move, all be it, they should have done this years ago.

Starspangledbanner is buy Choisir who is in turn by Danehill Dancer, same blood as Mastercraftsman and Holy Roman Emperor...speed is not their problem, the fact that nearly all their stallions are too allike, but i feel they are addressing this and have noticed some different types in both AOB and Wachman ranks
