as im sure your aware, Sue is the daughter of the late great Vincent O'Brien, she has been involved in coolmore longer than saddlers wells and without doubt would school each and everyone one of us when it comes to bloodstock

to be fair, know people who are in coolmore stud (work with the mares and foals) and they have nothing but good things to say about her

DMCK,Down to her advisers is it?If she is such the expert that we are all told she is then imo she would just tell them where they have gone wrong and not listen to bad advice from her advisers.as for Sue Magnier just because her father was a great trainer does not qualify her to advise any of us about bloodstock,that is your view but it ain't mine.

On this subject, here's a rhetorical question -- I wonder what difference to thoroughbred breeding there would have been if Her Majesty hadn't so shrewdly sold Height of Fashion?

Mrs Magnier may be the bloodstock dogs doo-dahs, then again she may not.
That's one thing I know I'll never know for sure. Does the Queen do so badly off 20-25 mares? I'm not so sure. She cannot possibly be the expert she is sometimes portrayed as there are not enough hours in the day given her workload, and competing with the funding and sheer size of the 300+ mare operations, Aga, Abdullah, Maktoum et al. well it ain't never gonna happen. There are a few boutique operations that do better than her but I bet it would be less than 10 or so of similar size. Height of Fashion was a mistake, but offered £1million+ for a 17hh carthorse, well how many of us wouldn't make the same mistake? She could never have supported the mare in the way that Shadwell did either in those 80's days of $500,000 dollar+ nominations. |

I think that a lot of HRHs problem is that her mares tend to be old fashioned stout family's,I suppose it takes time to change things around fast,but I agree with Pot M can't really see where she gets the time.
If I was offered £1 million+for a cart horse of 17hh like her she would be up the road fast,we can all be shrewd with the benefit of hindsight. |

Apart from High Chaparral and Henrythenavigator, they have the most boring and turgid names...what's with the Washington Irving angle? A rank rotten writer and slanderer.
There have been some peachy, inspired names from Khaled Abdullah, Sheikh Mohammed and even the Wildenstein horses. But they might as well give the Coolmore horses a feckin' number for all the difference it makes. |
