£91,000 average 89,000 median for his foals sold last year.
I can't think of too many N.H. stallions posting those figures!! A very impressive bunch by all accounts, it looks like he'll be perceived as 'Flat' for a while yet. |

was one hell of a precocious juvenile, that maybe did not make the grade when wintering... packed off to stud rather than damp squib at 3 in the classics.
we will know within a couple of years if his stock generally hit some heights as 2yr olds.. and maybe dont cut it at the classic age... should give us an answer imo of course. |

I heard he's producing monster foals, more akin to NH than flat. Anybody heard anything?
With this horse is it a case of breeders being swept away with the fact he is a Dewhurst winning son of Galileo? Stand back and take a good look at him, does he look the sort to get 2yos? IMO I doubt it,To me he is exactly the same type as Hawk Wing and will almost certainly get stock of that type as well, saying that I am sure he has had some decent mares so we will have to see but I can't really see him geting an awful lot of 2yrolds.They sold well last year, but I wouldn't use him. |

Spurred on to the Stallion book by your post Prima I must say I hadn't really registered the horse as being so big. I never saw Hawk Wing - couldn't bear the idea of him - but the couple of times I've seen Teo. he's about what I'd expected with Danehill/Galileo and not necessarily that backward a type mmm., food for thought. . .

Teo comes from a damline well frequented by JSB whose stock tend to improve with age. His full sister is an example of this trend: Senora Galilei was a scopey type who started her three year old career off 76 and ended it two runs later rated 100. The potential of Teo off this background given his size as a three year old was scary and it was a great shame he didnt make it to the racetrack in the circumstances
|

By:
It is his size that was most likely the factor as to why he didn't run at 3. Big horses that are precocious can pay a very high price at 3.Something John Dunlop was very aware of with Elusive Pimpernel.

Interestingly, a few years ago I read the same comments about Galileo, that his early progeny were more like store horses than flat runners. Turned out alright for him.

By:
Yes but with respect Galileo is a different type to Teofolio, that is a big factor when a stallion is selected for your mare,to me he may get back end types but not early sorts.

By:
I see JSB expects to have 20 Teofilos in training next year , he must have retained a leg in the horse and bred his mares to him.
|
|
By:
^^^ i reckon JSB has indeed kept a share in him. In a recent interview with the RP he claimed he'd eat his hat if Teo didn't become a top class stallion

does he still maintain he was the best he ever had even after New Approach?, as an enthuasiast, if there was one question I could ask him it would be this

Well it was always said that Finsceal Beo was 'booked' to Teofilo when they were both 2yos as Bolger rated them both so highly. Funny how she actually visited Galileo.....and now Sea the Stars. So was Teofilo really the best he had ever had? |
|
By:
Ya, that speaks for itself PM, he was saying last season before the Dewhurst that Chabal was as good as the two of them and look what happened there. It's a pity New Approach didn't stay in training at 4, His final career run was devastating

By:
You could say perhaps Jim Bolger is as guilty of hyping up his horses, rather like his former assistant........[;)]

I suppose when you've 'made' a couple of stallion prospects you probably do get a taste for it. He probably thinks of himself as a 'mini' Magnier these days and as such J.B. has cranked up a bit of a P.R. machine!
I'm still at a loss as to why a (good) jobbing trainer has suddenly turned himself into a regular supplier of top class horses over the last few years when it all used to be a lot more sporadic. If he puts it down to a his breeding programme, then it gives us all hope in the never ending quest to upgrade. |
|
By:
Yes since I've followed the game closely he seems to be able to come up with a top class or at least a gr1 horse every year since about the time of Alexander Goldrun, remarkable really
|
|
By:
He's championing the Brazilian bred stallion Leroidesanimaux ! has sent 6 mares to be covered by him in the US. His best 2 yr old (unraced) is outta this stallion. More in the Chabal mould than New Approach

Well, nothing too big and boaty at Deauville one assumes. Solid start.
