If I remember correctly, Sam Pepper has been in the house for just under 2 weeks.  Whilst he is certainly made a big impression, it hasn't all been positive.  I haven't been following the show closely, but was amazed to see him at such short odds.  Polling 2 weeks in is very transient (just like at the start of the show) and Isuspect that his popularity could vanish in another 2 weeks.

A quick look round the internet shows that he is polling very well, but these polls are remarkably well-aligned with digitalspy.  If you've been around for a while, you will know that DS has a remarkable record

Just my humble opinion, but there seems to be a bit of a sanity bypass going on.

PS  If that was to subtle, I think there would be less rigging on a pirate ship.

..and it's not just the polls.

The timing is right for him then isn't it? The show ends in just under 2 weeks.

Yesterday a poll ended on C4. It was basically a Sam popularity poll. Before they deleted it and put up another poll he was 57% yes to 43% no (at least that was the last I saw, they don't store them alas). Not brilliant, but it started out much worse and then continually got better for Sam until the end. The negative question wasn't even that bad, it was something like: "Do you think Sam is the biggest cause of trouble in the house?". Alternately "Do you think he's really a nice boy at heart?"

C4 polls can get electorates of 10s of thousands if left up for a few days or more (like this one). Vastly more than the fan sites.

They're not very aligned. It would be interesting to know how much forum surfing there is, second nature to gamblers but I think most people stick to their forum. Sometimes DS will link to other polls. TIBB has a bigger electorate than DS anyway.

Ad hominem attack. Very poor show.

Why don't you try and argue the points? Eg the massive surge in support across all polls (and twitter and general net comments).

Henry you are being owned here!

I'm really not convinced by the polls - numbers are really low on the mainstream polls, and they are moving closely in line with DS.  I suspect he has a fair degree of support right now, but favourite to win?  Get a grip guys.

I wish I was. I love debate. I love it when my views are changed by superior arguments.

Will you be "owned" if Sam wins?
Report FinancialHemorrage August 11, 2010 11:33 AM BST
IMHO I would definitely a bit of Sam at 10's, but he needs to deliver in nearly every show from here.  Last night was just nothing much.  I quite like Corin as favourite, but can't help but feel her game has drifted in the last few weeks.  Still the other runners don't look fit for the finish?

PS Am I the only one still backing Mario to drag his balls over the line?

That may be true, Figgy, but I'm pretty confident that you backed him a lot higher and would not be backing him at these prices.

I backed him at 70, 30, and 13 as he seemed to be becoming less troublesome. Here's where I get off the bus, though.

Fair points FH.

Things are changing so quickly this year, because the field is so week each show is important. Id written Sam off after his first few days, but got aboard once i saw he was able to modify his behaviour slightly. He stopped being nasty without losing his edge.

Obviously the short amount of time hes been there might work against him but it could also be the key to him winning, he won't be in there long enough for us to get bored of him. He steals almost every scene hes in and the other HMs seem to understand him a lot better now.

If BB want him to win he will, but i get the feeling this year more than any other because of the weakness of the field, who they want to win will be more of a factor than any other year.
Report FinancialHemorrage August 11, 2010 11:47 AM BST
Dylan, I agree with all of your comments except the scene stealing part.  To me, his trajectory is as follows:

1) Appear to be an utter prick, setting low expectations
2) Show sensitivity, humour and charisma (big improvement)
3) Fail to raise game for final 2 weeks...what was all the fuss about?

The alternative is 3) Pushes on to higher and higher heights whilse all around lose their heads.

It could happen, but I'm just not seeing it right now.
Report Dylan1975 August 11, 2010 11:52 AM BST
i guess thats where the bit about who BB want to win comes in, as i see it there are 4 possible winners (we all know who they are) i think any 4 could win and whoever BB wants to win will win, because its a pretty weak field.

So if they want Sam to win the situations will be manipulated to make it happen, but the same could be said of Corin, Josie or even JJ1.
Report Henry VIII August 11, 2010 11:52 AM BST
Last year from a month or so in there was a slow but very steady rise in Sophie's support that continued uninterrupted until at the end she was the most popular.

This year support is more transient generally, mainly because it's not a very nice bunch of people in the house this year. (Other years have had much worse bastards but also more nice people).
Report Rovers_til_I_die August 11, 2010 12:10 PM BST
Here's a clue for anyone that doesn't understand how Big Brother works...

Despite reading some online polls and seeing Sam's 'popularity' increase, doesn't make him a worthy candidate for being anywhere near the favourite. 99% of the voting public had already picked who they wanted to win before Sam even went in and only a small percentage of them will change their minds because of a bit of editng.

I don't mean to be rude, but I have to be honest, and that is probably the stupidest comment I've ever read on this forum. And that's quite a feat.

I always had a reasonable position on him from my Any other green, but the 1st time I backed him seriously was on Sunday morning @ 16/1 and 14/1 and similar on here.

Yes, I've layed off plenty now. He's no longer such massive value, obviously,  but he's still my biggest green.

We won't know who's right or wrong till 24/8. I haven't ditched Corin as I see either of the two winning, and either one has the capacity to mess it up for themselves (as do JJJ).

I still think there's a good chance Sam goes much lower after he escapes eviction on Friday and the new polls come out.
