The Betfair Contrarian is aware that this isn't the first time that he's stepped aboard the Andy Murray bandwagon. However, for several reasons that he is eager to explain, he's never before been so confident that the journey will end in glory. Here's why he's urging you to join him in backing the world number four at 7.2... Murray is yet to lose this season The Contrarian can at times be the world's harshest critic, but even he is struggling to pick holes in Andy Murray's form so far in 2012. The Scot has won his first nine matches (ten if you include an exhibition against David Nalbandian) and gave away a set in just three of those, in the early rounds of the two tournaments that he entered while feeling his way in. He is the sole member of the top four - the only ...

Andy Murray claimed his second title of the season in Cincinnati on Sunday. Despite that success, he can still be backed at 6.8 to win his first Grand Slam at the US Open which begins next week. Here's why you should be desperate to get on board... Cincinnati glory augurs well... Andy Murray's victory in the Cincinnati Open, the final ATP World Tour Masters 1000 series event before the US Open, is hugely encouraging for his chances in New York. Six of the last eight champions have gone on to reach the final at Flushing Meadow, with three heading home with the biggest cut of the prize money. His previous Cincinnati win came three years ago and prompted easily his best US Open showing, finishing as runner-up, having never even made it to the quarter-finals on his five other attempts. Andy Murray will have the hopes of a nation pinned on during Friday afternoon but a fit-again Rafael Nadal should have too much in his locker, not least the self-belief of taking the Scot apart at SW19 before. Those with tickets for Friday at the All England Club won't be seeing Roger Federer, but they will be witnessing two potentially classic Wimbledon Men's semi finals. Both Andy Murray v Rafa Nadal and Novak Djokovic v Jo-Wilfried Tsonga have the look of tight matches about them and most British eyes will be on Murray as he attempts to reach his first final at SW19. Unfortunately for the Scot, he has the formidable presence of the world number one standing in his way and he's yet to take a set from the Spaniard on grass. They've met twice at...

Andy Murray's momma may have eyes for Feliciano Lopez but the Scot is focussed on his task and should be backed for a comfortable win. Sean Calvert selects the best bets. Tuesday was another highly profitable day for this column at the All England Club, with both of my recommended bets obliging, thanks to Sabine Lisicki and the tenacity of Marion Bartoli. So, it's men's quarter-finals day at Wimbledon on Wednesday and, as is becoming rather predictable in the men's game, we have the top four seeds on show and they're all very short prices to progress. Rafa Nadal's injury scare makes him the biggest price of the quartet at around 1.20 against Mardy Fish, followed by Roger Federer at 1.19 against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Novak Djokovic at 1.14 to...

Richard Gasquet owes Andy Murray after the Scot knocked him out in a five set thriller three years ago. Ben Caudell, scourge of British hopes, believes the Frenchman will get his own back on Monday. Five reasons to back - Richard Gasquet to defeat Andy Murray @ 4.6 • The head-to-head series between these two is tied at 2-2. More importantly, in both of Gasquet's losses to Murray the Frenchman has been up by two sets. • Gasquet is yet to drop a set at this year's Championships; Murray has relinquished two so far. • The 17th seed has better career service statistics on grass, winning 75% of first serves and 57% of his second serves. Gasquet also has a higher first serven and service hold percentage. • The 2007 semi-finalist betters Murray this year at...

Andy Murray had one of those days where everything he tried came off on Saturday at Queen's Club and, as a consequence, I was nowhere near with my prediction of a close match between he and Andy Roddick. The good news is that my pre-tournament tip Jo Wilfried-Tsonga is in the final with Murray and he's not without a shot of being the first Frenchman to win the title at Queen's. Indeed, only Nicolas Mahut, Seb Grosjean, Guy Forget and now Tsonga have ever reached the final here for France, so the big man will certainly be giving this a go. Murray is a very skinny-looking 1.28 to become the first Brit to win this twice since Arthur Lowe in 1914, so one record will go at least. I certainly won't be backing Murray at that price, although the 2-0 Murray win appeals at around 1.74,...

Day 13 at the 2011 French Open features the men's semi finals and we have the best four male players on the planet facing off for a place in the final. I've already nailed my colours firmly to the Novak Djokovic mast against Roger Federer, but what of the other semi that features Andy Murray and Rafa Nadal? I went out on a limb in backing Robin Soderling against Rafa in the quarters, only to be greeted with an insipid effort from the Swede, who only started playing in the third set, once the match was lost. When Soderling did find his range, he took Rafa to a breaker and although the Spaniard's was a much improved effort on his previous rounds, I still don't think he's at his best, which gives Murray a squeak here. Murray's has been an eventful journey to the last four, with...

It's a long time since a British player won a Grand Slam (yawn) but Andy Murray is the brightest hope we've had for many years. Betting.Betfair's punting pugilists Max Liu and Joe Dyer do battle over the Scot's chances in 2011. YES As if constant reminders of the long wait for a British Grand Slam winner weren't putting ample pressure on Andy Murray, Betfair now runs a Murray GS Event Win market. With the new season stretching ahead with all the promise of a blank page (alas, not my own) it's time to consider a bet on said market. I say back Yes at 2.56. Think about it: he's ranked fifth in the world and there are four Grand Slams. Obviously that means there are only enough Grand Slams for the players ranked above him to win but if Andy can edge out one of...
