What phone are you using?
You normally need to go to bet within the My Bets section and then click on Update. You should then see the 'Keep bet in-play' checkbox. This is available on most mobile apps/sites apart from lite.betfair.com. |

iphone - but having done a big more digging looks like the ibetmate app will do the business

Yes, the official Betfair iPhone app does keep bets for sure. In fact so does the web app (Touch.betfair.com), the Android App and the Java app.
