Try https://iphone.betfair.com - it works on the HTC Desire.
Report Pirate Army May 12, 2010 12:09 AM BST
At the moment I use the iphone link but I would prefer to use Betfair mobile as you can see market depth which you can't on the iphone link.
Report Hove_Park_Upper_School June 3, 2010 5:56 AM BST
did you get it working on the Desire?

I'm thinking of getting one and want someone to confirm that the proper Betfair Mobile application fully installs and works correctly?
Report WEE JEAN June 7, 2010 11:09 PM BST
betfair not work on desire u can look at markets but u cant bet or i am just a dumb blonde that bought the desire
Report Hove_Park_Upper_School June 8, 2010 2:27 AM BST
are you using the proper Betfair Mobile program?

I can't see how you can view a market but not be able to bet on it if the program is installed and you're logged in!
Report Caryn June 9, 2010 11:46 AM BST
I got an HTC Desire yesterday and can place bets using the above link
Report Hove_Park_Upper_School June 9, 2010 5:38 PM BST
Caryn, that's not the proper Betfair Mobile application that is a million times better than that website you refer to...

Can you please go to http://mobile.betfair.com and download the program and tell me if it works correctly?
Report tomtom05 June 9, 2010 7:53 PM BST
Betfair mobile app does not work on phones that run on Android such as HTC Desire.

There is a way to get it working but its very 'techy' and unless you know what you're doing you could knacker phone altogether.

Hopefully Betfair will build Android version of mobile - but wouldn't hold your breath.

There is an unofficial app called 'Betonthemove' on Android market but I find iphone site easier to use.
Report Hove_Park_Upper_School June 10, 2010 3:34 AM BST
tomtom05, I am a very techy person and it's imperative I know if it can be got working before I purchase my new phone. [:o]

I presume you would need to install maybe Jblend, Jbed or a similar java emulator? [;)]

Have you actually managed to get Betfair Mobile working on any Android phone?
Report tomtom05 June 10, 2010 11:18 AM BST
I'm not very techy so not attempted to get working but seen other posts on here that indicate they have got working through jbed.

If you do get working be really useful if you could post step by step instructions on here for us non-techy people!!!

betfair mobile works on the htc hd2 so can see why it wont work on the desire
Report Hove_Park_Upper_School June 12, 2010 4:43 PM BST
The HD2 is a Windows Mobile device I believe and the Desire is on Android?
Report dttmee June 20, 2010 6:43 PM BST
download the mobile software from betfair. you will get a file named as mobex.jad in the "download" folder. copy the file to your pc. then go to this website http://www.netmite.com/android/srv/2.0.2.0/getapk.php
convert the .jad file to a .apk file which can be installed on your android phone.
it's running on my htc desire well.
please note: cancell the auto-resize screen action when 1st time running the program on you phone. otherwise it will block the softkeyboard.
Report Hove_Park_Upper_School June 21, 2010 5:26 AM BST
dttmee, on that website you listed, I presume you simply used option 2 & browsed for the .jad file on your PC (it says you need both a .jad & .jar file?). Confused

Do you have to use any of the advanced options or tick any other boxes?

When you get it running, does it fill the whole screen as it should and fully work with the touchscreen for login/placing bets etc...?

Looking forward to your reply!
Report dttmee June 21, 2010 2:40 PM BST
Hi H_P_U_S, use the option 2 and the brows button of "Choose the jad file to upload:"'s box only and don't tick other boxes. In addtion, I got reports that the website is not working on the Firefox for some people, so please use IE.

It's running pretty well on my phone. full screen and no problem with the touchscreen.
Report Hove_Park_Upper_School June 22, 2010 12:38 AM BST
Thanks for your help....I'll be able to try it within the next week when my new phone arrives!

I can sleep slightly easier now as I was a bit worried about not being able to get Betfair Mobile properly working on an Android device with a large touchscreen!

When you went to originally download Betfair Mobile from your mobile IE browser, did it actually recognise your phone or simply the generic 240x320 pda download?
Report Tom2007 June 22, 2010 8:07 AM BST
gonna sound really thick now but once uploaded converted file to Desire - where do I find it to run it???
Report Tom2007 June 22, 2010 11:43 AM BST
Please ignore last post - managed to work out and happy to confirm that mobile seems to work perfectly on HTC Desire.
Report bagz June 24, 2010 6:19 PM BST

awesome, cheers guys
Report Hove_Park_Upper_School June 25, 2010 7:39 PM BST
dttmee/Tom2007/anyone else, when you went to download Betfair mobile from your phone, did it accurately recognise the phone and download the program (or .jad file) ? Confused

I'm trying, but it thinks my phone is a Motorola Sholes and says that my phone is not supported when I click on download!

Could you please upload (to Rapidshare, megaupload etc..) this .jad and/or converted .apk file for me to get, to install on my phone as this is SO important! [:o]

Thanks in advance.
Report Tom2007 June 25, 2010 8:41 PM BST
The message you're getting is ok - same as when I downloaded to desire.

What you need to do is: download HTC Sync software onto your pc (go to HTC site) - then attach phone and choose option that allows you to download programs to laptop - one of files it show is downloads and this contains mobile download - download onto your PC.

Once you have have downloaded file then go to this website http://www.netmite.com/android/srv/2.0.2.0/getapk.php
convert the .jad file to a .apk file then re-attach phone to PC and install new apk file onto your  phone.

betfair mobile will then be in your programs folder and first time you try to access it will point you to an app you need to download (free) - do this and then you will be good to go.

Follow instructions that dttmee has posted and you won't go far wrong
Report Hove_Park_Upper_School June 25, 2010 11:19 PM BST
I was going to get a Desire, but at the last minute got a Samsung Galaxy-S instead, but this phone has exactly the same operating system (Android 2.1) and similar specs to the Desire, so this method should work perfectly, but it doesn't, mainly because the official Samsung sync software is rubbish and goes on about photos/videos/contacts etc... but no help whatsoever with downloading any files or the sort of thing I need to do to get this working!

So I'm back to square 1 and need this .jad/.apk file (or both just in case!) which I'm sure would work when I put it on my phone!

Could you please upload (to Rapidshare, megaupload etc..) Love

I have just got the desire.
I have managed to log into iphone.betfair.com but don't seem to get all the information such as horses names.
The text appears as 'undefined'.
Anyone any ideas?

I'm surprised that Tom2007 and/or dttmee didn't assist me as requested. [:(]

I had to resort to using google to get mobex.jad which worked perfectly after conversion I'm pleased to say.

Onehunglow, I simply followed the instructions from dttmee on this thread to the letter after finding the required mobex.jad file using google.co.uk

It just works if you do it correctly.

No need for the dig about not assisting you - both spent time and several posts trying to help you get Desire working only for you to bail and get Galaxy at last minute - not really our fault that advice we gave for desire didn't work because you changed mind!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Report go racing July 2, 2010 2:59 PM BST
Got it up and running on Desire great until it keeps bombing out with network failure-please try again. (27) any help please!
Report Hove_Park_Upper_School July 2, 2010 6:10 PM BST
Tom2007, I wasn't having a dig at you intentionally, and the fact I changed my mind on the phone is irrelevant as they both have the same O/S, so should work in the same way as far as Betfair Mobile is concerned.

I just needed the mobex.jad in a hurry and was hoping for a quick reply as you had done several times recently....you were a good help with your posts.

Ignore me - just having bad day at office - glad you got mobile sorted on new phone
Report skaterhaz July 15, 2010 1:07 AM BST
This is taking so long

I have done everything Tom2007 and dttmee have suggested and i get to the point where im launching Betfair on the desire and

'Error - Archivo no encontrado'

appears, which apparently means no file found. You press ok and it takes you back to the j2me app manager. Both the .jad and .apk are on the phone and it's all synced up nicely. So why the message and why in Spanish? The phone is legitimate btw, o2 contract.

Thanks

sorry I have been to holiday for a month - glad to know you have sorted it on your phone.

skaterhaz

you need to install the .apk file which you synced into your phone but not run it or the .jad file under the j2me or other java runtime enviroment. The android itself is written in java.

For those who cannot find the file
I have upload the .apk file to rapidshare. please find the link below:

The Java app doesn't work on Android phones. The best way to use Betfair on Android is to go to https://iPhone.Betfair.com or https://lite.betfair.com
I'd guess that they'll release an Android at some point but until then these are the best options.
