about to buy a new handset but really need one which can work with betfair when out and about especially at weekends.

not sure whether to invest in a really small laptop and broadband dongle or get an iphone or htc hero, or blackeberry for example......

really hoping forumites can steer me in the right direction as not got a clue about which route to go, and worried that as markets move if phone is not quick enough will end up missing everything

what do you all think??? HELP!!!!!!!!!

When you say "out and about" will you be mostly walking about or will you just not be attached to a wireless\fixed line connection?
If you're going to be sitting at events, in the pub or similar then it could be worth going for a spicy little tablet PC\lightweight laptop and a good 3G donlge, you can then use Betfair Rapid - which is a thick client and won't take up your bandwidth delivering images like the main site.

If you're looking for a mobile handset then the question would be what are you looking to do more generally with your handset and look to get one that serves your general mobile preferences as well as your Betfair ones.

The application works well on BlackBerry for example but if you're a big Nokia fan then maybe the N97 would be a better option. The iPhone browser app is good but the battery life on the iPhone is legendarily bad so you should think carefully about reliablity, nothing worse than seeing the battery down to 10% and still half a day's racing ahead!.
Personally I use the iPhone but keep a Sony Ericsson (W715) or BlackBerry (Curve) with me for back up....
I'm sure that there's lots of other ideas from people in here too so hopefully other will comment for you with their experiences too.....

Last week I got myself an Archos 5g 'internet media tablet'. First impressions are favourable although battery life between charges is pretty poor.

It can run Betfair Lite with no problems with the biggest plus being the 5" touch screen. There is a SIM card slot so no dongling!

Prices should drop in the next few weeks as Archos release their new 'Android'.

There are possibly some customer service and support issues although I haven't had to use them myself....yet!

Worth a look, especially if you're into downloading films, TV and music etc.

Has anybody got Betfair Mobile on the Samsung i890 HD?

Just got one myself on Orange and having trouble getting the text from Betfair to start the download, dunno if its the phone or me...just wondered if there is a better way, ie, download the software and install it manually on the phone??

Correction - the Archos 5g screen is in fact 4.25" by 2.5" although this still makes the viewable area larger than any mobile phone I'm aware of.

I have to agree the iPhone battery life is atrocious. I actually keep 3G turned off in settings to preserve the battery life, otherwise it drains very, very quickly. (But without wifi, and 3G turned off, - edge is a very, very slow experience.)
