One of Chris Waller's. Allegedly.

Better check Henry's thread to find out which one it was.

Strange how no horses test positive to marijuana isn't it?  Could that be because it isn't a stimulant or is that just coincidental?

I can't understand how I've gone over sir. I haven't had a drop to drink. The only thing I can think of is I came into contact with a drunk person in the pub.

Maybe there's a meth lab operating near an oats paddock and the feed has become contaminated.

Hang on that one or a version like it has already been used.
Report Lets Elope November 11, 2016 12:25 PM GMT
Ice can  most definitely linger on clothes, skin, etc so yes that is a far more likely prospect that the horse has been contaminated by some loser stablehand than Waller risking his multi million dollar livelihood to juice up some no hoper.

Feel free to indulge in your conspiracy theories nonsense though, I'm all for drug free racing but this is a hazard that is becoming more and more common and I know virtually every trainer that has large numbers of staff is concerned about this potential issue.

The testing employed these days is that sophisticated that it can pick up the most minute traces of substances, so yes my first thought was that he may been caught out but when you look at the bigger picture that seems highly unlikely.

Houses that have formerly been meth labs have to be specially cleaned to remove all the residue that lingers as unless that occurs they're inherently dangerous to your health, if not cleaned and detoxified properly it can lead to all sort of health problems to the new residents and this is now a well known fact, so you have to be careful about buying a house that is questionable.

There are now businesses that specialise in this sort of detoxifying of houses so yes unfortunately this sort of potential contamination issue is now a stark reality for trainers.
Report spyvspy27 November 11, 2016 10:29 PM GMT
Lets Elope, no argument that it can linger, so wouldn't everything the Ice user touched (saddles, bridles rugs etc)  transfer trace amounts of Ice to it? Also a stablehand looks after 4 or 5 horses so wouldn't he transfer trace amounts to all horses in his care?

Multiply that by the amount of Ice users working in stables, shouldn't we getting positives to Ice every single raceday instead of only a couple a year?
Report VeryLTU November 12, 2016 1:14 AM GMT
Sad .... jobe's just handed back his medal because someone slipped something into his injection. WADA, ASADa didn't even have to have a positive to nail his life for a couple of years.
You make some very good points spy. Gai got $6000 "fine" for her "stablehands" vicinity to H users.
Report VeryLTU November 12, 2016 1:19 AM GMT
just checked it..... Gai got $15000 "fine" after blaming 3 stablehands for personal use of cocaine. Waller has a previous i believe for a "stablehand" giving a horse lasix on the day of a race. He copped $30000 for that one.
Report The_KAMIKAZEE_DRINKING_MACHINE November 12, 2016 2:34 AM GMT
Apparently a positive swab is now just conspiracy theory nonsense.
Report VeryLTU November 12, 2016 3:06 AM GMT
Laugh... stands up in court these days. Bullpit being backed llke there is no tomorrow for DTO !!! could this discount the conspiracy theory .... or am i crazy.
Report Lets Elope November 12, 2016 4:31 PM GMT
No what I am saying is you can't just jump to conclusions in cases like this, it makes zero sense for Waller to sting a no hoper and if it was stung up it would have run a lot better than it did more than likely for all you know it could be an ice using owner who had some contact with the horse, it's a prospect that worries a lot of trainers these days.
Report spyvspy27 November 12, 2016 11:49 PM GMT
You say don't jump to conclusions, but isn't that exactly what you're doing by the following statements?

so yes that is a far more likely prospect that the horse has been contaminated by some loser stablehand

more than likely for all you know it could be an ice using owner who had some contact with the horse

Either scenario is quite possible. Also a possibility being thrown around is that they could've been testing a masking drug, if the Ice doesn't show up, the masking drug did its job, if it does show up, then blame a stablehand for contaminating the horse, receive a small fine and move on.

Keeping in mind that this is the trainers 5th positive in around 10 years.

Lets, do you believe the Junoob story, how the foreperson gave it a shot of Lasix that was intended for another horse?
Report Lets Elope November 13, 2016 3:24 PM GMT
Big stable it's eminently possible  but I could imagine if it my mate a relatively small victorian trainer had come up the same result, he would had the book thrown at him despite an unblemished record because he's not a big name.
So yes I thought the Junoob one was a bit hard to fathom to say the least but this one to me is far more likely to be happenstance
Report nugget November 14, 2016 12:24 AM GMT
I find it hard to believe they were using ice as a performance enhancer for a horse but I find it even more hard to believe the horse tested positive because it came in contact with a user.  Very un-scientific procedures being performed in my opinion.

Actually maybe the contamination from a stable hand is likely, it seems to have happened quite a bit.  It reminds me of a conversation I had with a dh who claimed he worked as a stable hand for a prominent trainer in Sydney, I thought he was bullsh*tting and couldn't believe anyone would hire him but maybe his stories are true after all.

Surely the test can detect if the positive was due to a performance enhancing dose or whether it was from cross contamination.  Didn't Waller have a problem with tainted feed in the past and also with a banned diuretic?
