Sorry. Been keeping to myself. As always, I knew he was up to the class, and has proven it in both of his last runs.
He is into 21.00 into the TJ Smith, but I would be surprised if he runs. I believe they are looking more to 3 week runs, with the view of Brisbane. I believe the race for him was the Newmarket, at big odds, and obviously up to 5kgs worse off in the TJ Smith. Think he runs now in maybe a G3 after the big one, heading into maybe a BTC and Doomben 10,000 campaign.
Keep him fresh, and run some big races seems the plan. Not sure why we are paying up for the big ones, but whatever. Just glad to see him finally being tested, and living up to it.
As for the run on Saturday, I have been Blake Shinns biggest critic, as his last few rides have been horrible. I planned the race out on Saturday, and I pointed out to quite a few people, that he needed to be ridden in about 3rd, and his chances relied on Ball Of Muscle, and how long he could drag him in the race. I feel Blake rode the perfect ride, Dothraki ran beautifully, but he still gets exposed when he hits the front too early and switches off.
He needs a solid horse to chase down the straight, and he will jag a big one without question. All this sitting off the pace rubbish, needs to be put behind us. Sit him just off the speed, in a good solid race, and he will never be far off. I honestly believe level weights against the best, he is good enough, but he just needs that horse to drag him to the 100. If he had that on Saturday, I have no doubt he wins the race. Ball Of Muscle just fell off a bit too quick.
Is a quirk of his that will keep him from being elite, but the right race, and the right conditions, and he is well up for it. Cannot fault anything about the run on Saturday.
Advice though, don't back him for the TJ Smith all in markets, as, without knowing their plans, I am siding towards the opinion that he will not race until the following weekend. This is reading between the lines, rather than knowing.

There’s been a slight change of plans over the long weekend regarding Dothraki. Peter was in touch to let us know that he was tossing up the options of waiting until Brisbane Winter Carnival to run Dothraki in some good races there, or running in the TJ Smith this Saturday (hence the acceptance that you may have seen). Having drawn well, with barrier 5, Peter has opted to run this weekend

Thanks. Good to see them finally giving him a go. Interesting race with a serious lack of speed, but guess they wouldn't be running if he wasn't going well, given he is 5kg worse off here than would have been in the Newmarket. See where he fits in the scheme of things soon enough.

Bad luck BJT on Saturday in the BTC Cup but think you were beaten by a pretty good horse in Malaguerra so you were more than a bit stiff.
Fortunately I was on him, had to stick after backing Malaguerra for a very good result against much better opposition in the All Aged Stakes.

Yeah, crazy day. I was pretty much climbing on the grandstand ready to jump on the roof at the 100. Couldn't believe when I saw the inside horse got up.
Shinn seemed pretty filthy as suggested he switched straight off when he hit the front. Generally doesn't do that til he is out of sight of them, and the winner has 10 out of 18 wins, so does know how to get the job done.
Super impressed with his run, and tbh his last few runs in G1 company has shown he is more than up to the task. Keep putting him in, he will snag one, I have no doubts.
Will it be next weekend in the Doomben 10,000? We will soon find out. Yep, still in QLD, and will run it, barring anything unforeseen. 1350m. They don't like the idea, but I feel much more comfortable with that distance for him. See how we go.
Should crack the million next run regardless. Been an amazing ride.
Can pick em.... :)
