What a great Interesting Field.
Every body is saying its a 2 Horse Race but they May Burn each other 1st Up.
They both have big races in the next couple of weeks.
I still think they will run 1 & 2 BUT i have backed a horse 3 weeks ago i would of called a Milk Drinker. METRO MIKE
I have backed him at $41 for $100.
Good Trial a Couple of weeks ago, 1st up Unlucky, last start Track Record in the Death won easy, Rain Affected Track and in the Death 1:53.6
Brauns horse is 1st Up and Other one is about on Par with Metro Mike but $41 i think is a Great Outside bet.
Ill be laughed at

Ill Lay Keystone Del at 1.20 to Win $2000 as well
Report trotsman January 15, 2015 1:34 PM GMT
Joined forum recently & apologies my nickname is similar Lloydy (can it be changed?). Mentioned something similar re MMike at another forum after his latest win on how he looks to have finally fulfilled his talent. I just don't see where he slots in here + the other two are superstars. Looking for the 3rd place getter, I came up with Uncle Wingnut @ $7. Hopefully he's 3 pegs which should give him a shot late. GL with Metro Mike.
Report Aussie Driver January 15, 2015 9:58 PM GMT
I can't see any possible way anything other than Christen Me or Beautide wins. As I stated before the Miracle Mile, Christen Me is at least as good and probably the better horse of the two, so with the gate advantage he should find the top and be the likely winner.

Aiken's pair look the most likely placegetters to me, Wartime Sweetheart just loves the cold peg sit and Cold Major is absolutely flying.

Agree with Trotsman, Metro Mike is going to find it very hard whether they go forward or back

Beautide scratched!
Report Aussie Driver January 16, 2015 6:06 AM GMT
Very disappointing Sad
Report Lets Elope January 16, 2015 12:16 PM GMT
Over the shorter trips Christen Me probably has a slight edge mile, 2100m etc but no doubt in my mind that Beautide has the edge once they get to further than 2100-2200m

you wont get a better race than the pacing cup at gp..thats harness at its best

imo
Report gardenstar January 16, 2015 12:57 PM GMT
Agree entirely. Can't get in Victoria too many mates all worked out before race...kills it here in Vic
Report Aussie Driver January 16, 2015 12:58 PM GMT
A great race to watch, incredibly entertaining, but those blokes over there have zero idea at all how to drive. Hall/Harper/Prentice obviously wanted their horses to have zero hope
Report gardenstar January 16, 2015 1:03 PM GMT

Agree it was edge of the seat viewing.

Just watched the replay, have a look at where Hall and Harper finished!!!! One of them was basically equal fav, got beat over 100 metres. Imbecilic tactics, but good for viewer
Report Aussie Driver January 16, 2015 1:12 PM GMT
Correction, only got beat 84.7m, Harper's drive got beat 72.3m. Prentice's drive did not finish. They were the three horses that were dug up the whole race.

They certainly made for some entertainment though!!

fair call..heard senior on local racing radio here during the week..he said junior wanted to drive hard copy, and almost for first time he didnt get his first chioce ..mug like me couldnt cop the tip..
Report Lets Elope January 16, 2015 1:44 PM GMT
David Hercules was a monumental effort, will go very well on the big tracks over there if he doesn't have to scrape it off the track with a spatula after that run.
Report trotsman January 16, 2015 2:24 PM GMT
It sounded like although out in 7, Snr wanted to tip him tonight in his interview with Gareth Hall. Also declared him after Freo consolation for tonights race if he drew a gate. I copped half the tip and had him to place along with the 8. Pacific Warrior looked mighty unlucky and with a little more luck wins imo.
Winner of the last looks Menin Gate like also.
Report whoopi January 16, 2015 8:41 PM GMT
From purely an entertainment point of view the smaller tracks provide a much better spectacle.
The bigger the track, the more boring the racing. Take a look at Menangle. They settle in their positions and stay there until the home turn........boring as.
Report Khan321 January 16, 2015 10:36 PM GMT
Metro Mike out too now.

Whoopi you're right, especially about Menangle but the excitement is more to do with the drivers than track size.  As AD says many WA drivers seem to care less about their horses and are happy to carve them up and get beat out of sight.  That makes for very exciting viewing and that sure was a cracking race to watch last night.  Also good for $5 punters who pick one at random and might get a show.

On the other hand it's bad for the horses, their owners, and punters who bet more than $5.  The owners are loaded so don't care and just go buy another crop (which explains why 8 out of the 11 runners last night have NZ after their names).  When I do bet I bet plenty so am very glad I stayed out of that race last night and got to enjoy watching it.  Watching fun stuff and making money are very different things.  I've learned the hard way to favour drivers who make smart, predictable decisions so haven't bet in WA for a while now.

If you were the owner of one of the current superstar eastern state or NZ horses you'd be feeling very glad you skipped flying over to WA this year.  You would have copped a nightmare run, not win and now have a stuffed horse with some huge races coming up very shortly.

The big test for those owners will be in 10 months when WA hosts a $1.3m 4 night inter dominion series.  That's going to be great but I suspect it'll also fall into the watching fun stuff but don't bet category.

Pretty Boring Race compared to last night.
Ill stand by my Comments Metro Mike and i did say i still think Beutide/Christian Me would run 1&2

I cant understand David Hecules drive. Why Go to front so early and try and kick away? Yes i was on for plenty.
Was he just wanting Toretto beat?
Got himself beat and was not a good quality field.

Another Bad drive on Friday was National Service should of won by the Straight.

One more Brauns horse are Airbourne again.

All the people raving about WA cup must enjoy watching team driving to get the best horse beaten.

There is a reason punters like galloping tracks - they are big. Bulldoze all 800m tracks and get with the times you geriatrics

2 Cups Ruined by Scratchings Ballarat and now Bendigo would of got so many more People if Metro Mike had of runWink

Im with Uncle about Perth, Hall Jr should get at least 6 months for that drive, gave his horse now possible chance.
Had been Softned up early, knew if went to front would be pressured heavily by David Hercules and the Caller, made the race sound like it was greatest race in History

Todays Cup at Hamilton 3 Possible Hope only Rest all Claimers. But this will be a great entertaining race.
Restrepo gets my 1st pick on last run and has the class to win with Best Driver in Aus/Nz on.
Abetorpunt drop in class, trailing well, home track. 1st Up but easy 2nd pick.
Query Runner Arden Rooney, had easy run last week but has big Wraps on him. Ill take everything into Restrepo then Abetorpunt and Saver on Arden Rooney if paying Well.

I got sick of hearing how that WA Cup was one of the greatest races in history by the Sky team after the race. It was seriously entertaining but only because you had a group of guys out there who don't know how to drive in the big league. And a group of average horses to boot. It was more humorous than great.

Lloydy, today I think Manuka Man is the knockout if he steps (which is a risk).

The problem with Perth trots is that the participants wear their incompetency as a badge of honour. I heard Brennan laugh about the fact they don't hand up to anything over there in the coverage. That is the reason the WA Cup was full of very average horses Friday night, that is the reason the last Inter over there was full of rubbish Perth FFA's. No good horse from the east or NZ will go because they have to deal with having their horse ruined by mugs that have no idea how to compete at the highest level, and keep a horse going for more than one season.

We want to hope that Rattray, Dalgety, Stewart etc and all owners of top flight horses did not watch that race Friday night, or the next Inter in Perth will be another joke full of B grade locals.

mug drivers in every state..weak argument that imo
Report Aussie Driver January 18, 2015 2:47 AM GMT
Different types of mugs Ted.

You can argue integrity in other states. In Perth they just destroy the horses. Those three that went went beserk Friday night didn't get within 70 metres of the winner. That is why you didn't get one good horse from anywhere outside of the state. Same with the last Inter when basically nothing went. Why take a good horse to get carved up by butchers who can't drive?
Report bigted. January 18, 2015 2:54 AM GMT

what was humorous aussie was the Monte on Friday night - every horse bar one breaking and then the one that didn't break leads by 80 at the 20, paces stops and wins by 2
Report Aussie Driver January 18, 2015 3:14 AM GMT
That was a different conversation altogether Craig. Thankfully that farce involve destroying good horses Sad

AD I think the connections of Smoken Up, Mr Feelgood, Auckland Reactor and Raglan would not agree that "nothing" went to Perth for the 2012 Inters to take on I'm Themightyquinn but I know I am wasting my time on a mind already made up.
Report Aussie Driver January 18, 2015 5:14 AM GMT
Chariots, I said "basically nothing", and do you think 4 horses from outside the home state in an Inter is a good series? Is that what we want to see really? Raglan was never top grade either. If we only get three top grade horses from outside of WA next year it will be a complete disaster for the series, surely you agree?
Report Aussie Driver January 18, 2015 6:38 AM GMT
Well done Elsu
Report Chariots January 18, 2015 6:47 AM GMT
Still like you to name the top four horses in Australasia at the time AD.

With $1.8m up for grabs in Nov/dec 15 it will be a different story anyway.

Of course the super States could have had the Inters if they had come to the table with a similar bid.
Report Aussie Driver January 18, 2015 7:06 AM GMT
I agree the money is the difference and that should get them there anyway.

Don't want to argue with you Chariots, but I suspect you know as well as I do that Perth Inter was the death of the original series at the time. Trainers don't go for the WA Cup now at all because, rightly or wrongly, it is seen as Kamikazi driving over there which can destroy horses. Unfortunately, again we saw that on Friday night. I would think you would all want a proper Grand Circuit race for your Cup? You don't get it at the moment and we saw a big part of why Friday night.

I hope it doesn't extend to the new Inter. We need that back to the pinnacle of the sport where all the big guns are there to compete, not a small handfull
Report Chariots January 18, 2015 7:25 AM GMT
Couldn't be further from the truth re the death of the inters AD. Perth actually held a traditional series after  the other states bastardised the series over a number of years and the minnow States could not afford to run it anyway.

At least we are returning to a traditional format.

You may have also forgotten that the carnage on the first turn in the final was caused by Smoken Up and Mr Feelgoid driven by Lance Justice and John McCarthy not the WA amateurs.
Report Aussie Driver January 18, 2015 7:29 AM GMT
We will agree to disagree then. It would be terribly sad if the trainers/owners of the best horses around continue to avoid going to Perth because of what we saw Friday night.

As I said RIGHTLY OR WRONGLY, that is the perception of Perth trots, and perception is reality. And where you hear guys like Brennan laughing about it, you know it is a cultural problem.

I agree its great that you are returning it to its traditional format. There is no one happier than me about that. Let's just hope some people in Perth accept what everyone else thinks before they ruin their chance to bring the real Inter back. Friday night was complete laughing stock
Report Joel January 18, 2015 7:29 AM GMT
Agree
Report uncleee January 18, 2015 8:35 AM GMT
Tradition? Tradition has run this sport into the ground. Show me the data that the inter in its traditional format does anything for the sport apart from appease those who can't forget the past. Heat and final racing is a blight and that is the consensus for every single series except for the inter - it separates the top ranked horses so they only clash once and maybe twice at best. why bother having the heats we know who should be in the final.
Report Craig The Speculator January 18, 2015 2:00 PM GMT
harness racing is stronger in WA than anywhere else in Australia Aussie so why would they change

why would they try to emulate less successful states

the focus needs to be on exciting / entertaining the wider population and GP seems to do that better than most
