Yeah, but he is a very good predictive caller. If he says they're struggling a lap out....they really are struggling.
He also gets the tight finishes right. I'll take getting a couple of names wrong, he's a quality caller imo |
|
By:
He tries to predict things before they happen ( eg a horse is going to the front, normally a favoured runner , but gets left in the death).
Just call the race as it happens. Photo finishes, he used to be good but lately no good. Here's 2 example November 14 Race 6 Called Waltzing with Cullen the winner by a nose, Absolute Cool won. November 21 Race 1 Called Macon Georgia the winner by a nose, Wills Boy won. And I cant be stuffed finding more buts there's plenty. |

greg miles is fast becoming hopeless and adam olszanski made a shocker two months ago calling a race winner a different horse all the way to the post.

November 17 Gloucester Park Awesome Achiever ran in 2 consecutive races, well in was called in 2 races.
|

By:
Bit harsh I think.
Compare his calls to the dross that calls at many gallops meetings. Harness racing is overflowing with quality callers in comparison....you blokes are spoilt. |
|
By:
Except the Mt. Gambier bloke of course.......his calls are bad beyond belief.
|
|
By:
US horse racing commentators the worst imo:
They seem to oscillate between: (i) slow and boring (ii) almost boring, (iii) recital of the runners in order, (iv) exaggerated excitement as they are in the stretch. |

Bayonet - Richard Bell did have a bad night last Friday no doubt - I even thought maybe he was feeling some pressure with John Hunt "hanging around"
Normally though I think he is a great caller, like whoopi said he seems to read how the race is being run better than just about anyone. Big fan of Chris Barsby too |
|
By:
Greg Miles had an absolute shocker last Saturday. Is one of the worst callers going around.
|
|
By:
Barsby...product of Fowler..product of Wilson...product of Curry.....
All great callers for their time... ![]() |
|
By:
my favorite one is when a horse ambles up to take the lead without actually taking the lead (of course the caller calls as if it has)
but then when it doesn't go past the winner the caller says "ohhh but it's kicked back and won" you ****wit, it didn't kick back it just never got headed.. that infuriates me personally, don't call what you think will happen.. call what has just happened |
|

Exactly second coming.
This week at GP caller said, Race 2 , Mosquito Buzzin ( at the 600 ) is under alot of pressure but sticks on. Won by 7.8 mts. Race 4 Called Sandakan Lombo , Sandakon Lombon Race 5 Called Trojan Bromac , Trojan jamie Race 6 Called Shifting Sand, Shifting John Hunt called race 9 , Mat Young called race 10 so not a bad night for Richard. |
|
By:
Hard to please
seriously is that all you have to complain about!?? he called something shifting instead of shifting sand get a life |

His call of the Golden Nugget was outstanding.
He does get a few horse names wrong and needs to eradicate that to become an elite caller but he reads a race very well. Better than listening to the syrup laden ego tripper in John Hunt who declared a horse under a tighter hold than a Killer Kowolski opponent. Very few would have known what he was talking about |
|
By:
He explained that in the run, never minded John's colour, sometimes over the top but a great caller nevertheless, chandon .. his opponents must be pondering the magnitude of the enormity of the task before them, that was first up as a three-year-old when he was gunned down by I think Flashing Star, another very good horse. Remember The Harlem Boy upsetting them in the Pacing Cup poor John was almost distraught at it the Harlem Boy ..the Harlem Boy always make you laugh but then they're are the great ones the way he used to call Black Irish the electric black he's un...leashing now, that sort of stuff sent shivers up your spine, the many great Pacing Cups, Fremantle Cups, Derbies Golden Nugget and Inters calls, a great race caller and always worth listening to and rarely if ever got the photo wrong.

anyone who doubts Richard Bell's ability to read a race check out race 6 at GP tonight
he called Indomitable the winner getting out but yet to show it's sprint from three pegs 15 metres off the lead with 100 to go - and he zoooomed to victory |

Richie was a bit scratchy after giving up a future in Law to become a racecaller.
He started calling Mandurah dogs in the early 90's and made heaps of mistake early in his career. But he has improved out of sight over the years. |
|
By:
An outstanding call in the Pacing Cup aided by some very daring or suicidal drives.
