throw in the 650k in Freo and WA pacing cup in early Jan (i assume they are staying) and there will be a lot of money up for grabs in a 6 week period.

Lets hope they spend a little bit of that 8.1mil dedicated to the promotion of the event by putting a bit of camber in the track and throwing in a sprint lane

with that amount of money and no feature racing in the east they have to get some good horses over

Total funding over the three years is $8m plus including stake money, marketing and capital infrastructure.

Capital works program will cover upgrade of GP track, lights at Pinjarra and stabling at Byford so a longer term legacy for WA Harness Racing.

GP has the most competitive racing in Australia, not sure why they would want to ruin that by throwing in a sprint lane.

have to agree...that 2 mile straight at menangle is as boring as.....rebuild Harold Park I say!

Gp has competitive racing for various reasons, not least of which is that connections seem far more happy for their horses to get slaughtered than elsewhere.  I guess they just go out and buy new ones.

Frith these days is establishing herself as the best mare in the country.  In that race she was viciously attacked by both Lucky Diva (who won $10k last season) and Askmenow (who hasn't won for in her last 18 starts).  That's what you routinely get if you take a good horse over there.

Frith put in one of the best runs from a 3yo filly of all time imho to win that and seems to have recovered just fine.  I hope she keeps going strong for many years but time will tell.

From memory the following eastern state horses have gone over to WA as young potential superstars had had their careers end quickly and/or disappointingly soon after:

Bonavista Bay
Chancellor Cullen
Divisive
Tanabi Bromac

There are probably others. 

Only one non-WA horse has won the WA Cup this century (Washakie in 2010).

You go over there, get slaughtered, don't win the big races, and greatly shorten your career.  Why do it?

Just leave them to slaughter each other.

WA harness racing has thrived despite that track - not because of it.

WA racing doesn't suffer from the saturation of racing on the east coast. Despite east coasters having to watch late into the evening their product has time to breathe

Sounds like the consensus is that "visiting horses getting chopped up by local bolters" = "competitive racing" ????   :-)

Travelling horses is far more professional now - but I think the Nullabor is the cause of many careers ending - Glenns Thunder etc !

or maybe for a change they don't have races handed to them on a platter by non competitive horses and drivers just handing straight up to them. fact the inters are our s for the time being if you don't like it don't come, I'm betting with the stakes on offer they will.

1). Small tracks wreck horses 2). Gut busters wreck horses 3). Once the horse is ruined go and buy more from nz. That's WA racing.

Machtu is one of 17 G Hall snr trained 4 year olds - he cost 250k. Do the math on total amount spent on those 4yo's (id bet they are nearly all from nz) and possible prize money they compete for (often against each other) and tell me who the winner is out of that equation...

Doesn't matter what Hall pays as far as he's concerned, as he's not paying for them and you notice the same owner are basically in all the good ones, funny that.

ITMQ has underpinned the entire operation and the only real winners at the end of the day will be Halls Snr and Jnr.

Training fees plus 12.5% of all stake money between them is a guaranteed earn when you are purchasing quality horses. Hate to think what some owners may have tipped into the operation.

Some very expensive flops and some that have broken down as well.

An excellent business model if the owners keep tipping in.

No doubt about Glen Moore and some others but unless you were in ITMQ you would be a long way behind.
