Cockburn suspended for his drive on bling it on... He drive exactly how luke had been driving it and it got tired in a walkathon. You can guarantee if it was luke driving nothing would have been said
that is dead set ridiculous, he is noted for his brilliant speed and he was driven to use that.
a suspension like that just illustrates their complete lack of understanding

Breeders Crown needs complete overhaul uncompetitive heats means no turnover. Come to Vic and run whole series. Until they get rid of all the F***wits working at HRV the sport is gone

id say its the one event that doesn't need an overhaul - it goes from strength to strength each year.
The 2 & 3 horse races are scheduled at the very end of meetings (last nights race on at 11pm) or start (note GP on monday)
Id rather watch (and bet) on that race last night than a race maiden from South Africa... but thats just me

every race should be designed for turnover. if they aren't then they shouldn't exist. the sport relies on turnover. without it what are the trainers/drivers/breeders going to do?
the horse has won 25 races and 670k, i thought he was entitled to do more than jog around behind the leader in a 68.7 half. the sport should be doing everything to encourage people to bet, the industry relies on it. i can't see how having 2 horse races where the $1.10 favourite is not fair dinkum is in any way a good thing for the sport. i can understand that the connections would not have wanted the horse to have a gutbuster, as it still gets another crack at the crown win or lose. however,i think anyone who backed it deserved better.

No you are wrong. BC funding model is not run by turnover, it is a user pay system. To say you need to make races like BC heats more conducive to turnover is pointless, they make up

i understand the funding model of the breeders crown.
the sport needs to be encouraging punters to bet on all races whether they be breeders crown heats, montes, warragul co's or inter domininions. uncompetitive 2 horse races where the driver of the $1.10 favourite gets 8 weeks for allowing the leader to run a 68.7 half does nothing to encourage punters to bet on the sport.

south african maiden: $8543, $16483, $31234 (possibly co-mingled that pool)
so i think it is safe to say that the majority are more interested in the south african maiden than the 2 horse breeders crown heat.

From an observer looking in there seem to be many factions all telling how it should be,that suggests a problem to start with. Interesting Unclee about not run by T/O,would that be unique among the 3 codes?.

Which strategy should harness racing be pursuing, 1. The twice a year spectacle/premium racing (the championships and Melbourne carnival) with a higher utilisation rate (take out is higher during carnival), OR, 2. The lottery high volume racing (the greyhounds)
As an owner and now infrequent punter (I used to punt a lot) I'd prefer to see the premium racing. I know racing is going to be a cost to me so at least give me a premium experience as an owner. I see futurities as premium racing that should be protected.
I may be wrong about greyhounds someone with more knowledge correct me.

I'm one of the first to bring out the pitchforks for bad drives but this one was fine.
juzzybee only morons who hate money bet in 2 runner anything using a TAB, the takeout is too vicious. The two possible dividends were $1.10 and $3.40!
If you back anything with the TAB in a 2 runner field you deserve only to lose enough cash to teach you not to do it any more.

khan- i agree, people who bet on the tote in 2 horse races are morons. but the sport, and you and i, need these morons punting on the trots.we don't need them getting disillusioned and spending their mug money on the gallops/dogs/sport. based on the tote pools, there weren't many people betting on the race at all.
uncle- i think the breeders crown is a fantastic showcase for the sport. just not 2/3 horse races where top class horses are jogging around at slower then trackwork speed. in my opinion they should either by non-tab races, or they should have to come to victoria to race. i don't believe that the race on friday night spread a positive image of the sport. like yourself, i am a less regular punter than i used to be. administrators need to listen to people like you and i to find out why we are punting less than we used to be. for me, and many others i know it is integrity. which i was why i have no issue with cockburn being suspended. i think that stewards need to be more proactive in questioning incompetent/questionable drives. you only have to have a look at charlton race 2 last week to understand why i punt less on the trots these days. the more confidence punters have in the integrity of the sport, the more they will punt, and then everything flows on from there, increased prizemoney, bigger returns to owners/trainers/drivers etc. surely the only participants who would not support this are the ones who are pulling the rorts.
i'm with you. i don't think we should follow the greyhound lead and have rubbish racing all day every day. but the one positive thing the greyhound industry did was tap into the twilight period when more people are punting. i think we should have less meetings and more races at each meeting. and stop paying down to last in victoria, it makes a complete mockery of the sport. it is not under 10's soccer, participants shouldn't be rewarded for not being successful.winners should be rewarded appropriately. losers should not. anyway, i could go on and on forever about how the sport could improve, but i am not sure it will ever happen

This thread contains too much racing intellect for the Betfair forum!
Juzzy, I like the way the Breeders Crown is structured, with heats in each state. They already run semis in Melbourne the week prior to the final, do you want them to travel for heats as well? What happened to the Inter tells us very clearly that doesn't work, too many options now for people to be travelling good horses for extensive periods of time. You would see horses bypass the series if they had to do that. Whether these small field heats in QLD/SA/WA are non-TAB races or TAB races is of no consequence I don't believe, people don't have to bet on them.
I think most of us would agree we see too much racing, but the turnover dollar for each code essentially funds the sport. You can understand racing administrators adopting the more is better mentality. The way each body is funded, they would be negligent in their duties if they didn't take this path, unfortunately

AD. Most people are like lemmings, following others off the cliff. Give them something to bet on and they can't help themselves. Shame on whoever frames two horse races as betting races. Anyone know how to make a two horse race a one horse race?
