yep, to his credit he turned the tables from the last time they met, maybe because he's racing better? maybe because of the inside of the track? maybe because he was better on the night?... who knows
Report Lets Elope July 26, 2014 8:55 AM BST
Maybe because he's the heir apparent at the very least locally to quinny, is better than those horse despite the tactics of and however many runners a certain stable has and the fact that you don't get paid for winning trials. Yet again it did all the work and was too good, wonder if they've learned their lesson yet and will hand up to it next time rather than back one of theirs to beat it.
Report Lets Elope July 26, 2014 8:56 AM BST
that should have read as better than those horses last night
Report Lloydy Trots Man July 26, 2014 9:07 AM BST
Lets he would go around in Ballarats FFA tonight a $5 Chance
He has always going to be a good horse but just cant step up when it counts.
I was on the 2.40 last night as they where Adelaide FFAs he was against.
WA Racing i getting weaker every year.
Report uncleee July 26, 2014 11:40 AM BST
But who are these horses he's beating, never heard of them
Report Lets Elope July 26, 2014 12:42 PM BST
Northview Punter very smart on his night and trialled very well beating Davd Hercules in 1.55 something at Byford last Sunday apparently, so he's obviously come back from his spell in top order and may have improved again.
Report gatespeed July 26, 2014 1:34 PM BST
how could Northview Punter have improved when the last time he raced David Hercules (feb 21) DH sat outside him and couldn't beat him?

mmmm...
Report Lets Elope July 26, 2014 1:57 PM BST
spelled and clearly has come back in good order as northview has never trialled that good publicly ever to my knowledge. Hercules that night in question was three wide for the first lap without cover working extremely hard while northview punter went straight to the front and really rolled along  which was why hokinui ben was able to charge home from second last to get over them both, David Hercules was monstrous that night and despite doing all the work was still only btn a half length by northview punter and was again closing strongly strongly in the last 50m. Incidentally that night because of the draw I bet around hercules as knew Northview would lead comfortably and that Hercules would have to do a heap of work. Not to mention they went 1.55.8 for the 2500m that night. Northview Punter was also rock hard fit that night and he was first up the other night and although he invariably runs well fresh so yes it's a fair assumption to surmise that he's improved and come back a better horse.
Report Lets Elope July 26, 2014 2:01 PM BST
If you're going to make a smart arrse comment gatespeed do yourself a favour and at least go back and watch the replay first in future as you might then avoid making, how shall we say this, an error in judgment?
Report gatespeed July 26, 2014 2:45 PM BST
all the trial form is available mate, right there at a click of a button, let me know if you have trouble looking it up

and if you don't mind, that memory recollection of yours is well, astounding. If there is any literature, tools, etc that allow one to remember thought process so vividly from 6 months ago id appreciate if you can point me in the right direction

thanks
Report Lets Elope July 26, 2014 3:15 PM BST
I was pretty sure It had worked hard as when I saw who had won the race as Hokonui is one of my favourite horses as he's been very good to me and thought he was massive overs that night given his run in the inters heat at his first start for Aldo and how the race was likely to be run. I still went back and checked the replay though just to confirm what I had thought had occurred. Yes I have a photographic memory for horse and things I want to remember plus useless trivia but can't remember when asked to turn the oven on at 4.30pm, as can be very absent minded.
Apologies as thought you were trying to be smart arrse.
Am well aware where you can find the trials,  I often exchange views with a few who watch them but unless I'm there to see them for myself which I haven't done for ages or watch them on video I consider them but don't give them too much weight unless the time are quick, however I pay far more attention to gallops trials and have found many, many, winners out of them. I don't bet on trots when there's not a lot of exposed form unless I specifically know something.

Plus at the trots if you know certain trainers patterns and certain horses you pretty much know how they're likely to perform first up.
Report Lets Elope July 26, 2014 3:19 PM BST
I think you can get a very big edge if you know what you're looking for in a gallops trial whereas at the trots pretty much everyone can see if a horse has trialled well. That's my opinion and I'm sure some will disagree with it but it works for me.
Report Craig The Speculator July 27, 2014 8:48 AM BST
Lloydy I know this forum is mainly populated with Victorian harness people and my comments may upset a few but your comment is plainly ridiculous in my opinion

For all the hype around every promising Victorian youngster which is always going to be a superstar Victoria fares no better at the top echelon than any other state.

I had a list of 10 WA horses over the years and there is no way Victoria could match it

I am of no doubt both David Hercules and Northview Punter will compete very well over the next few years against Victoria's best let alone be $5 in a Ballarat FFA but time will tell

Just as an aside what a cracking race it was on Friday night and whilst David Hercules did it tougher and triumphed Northview Punter was first up and will go a lot better when 100% fit
Report Lets Elope July 27, 2014 9:15 AM BST
It may have improved again Craig but in the past it has shown it can be a little weak at times Northview when things don't go its way but it definitely looks to have returned in better form as it fought on pretty well after having a relatively easy time in front early. Thought it was the perfect drive by Woodley as he started to niggle away at Northview  with a lap to go and really served it up to him soon afterwards a fair way out and although it only won by a couple of metres or so I think it was pretty comfortable in the end
Report Lets Elope July 27, 2014 9:19 AM BST
Judging by the way the trial watchers were spruiking it craig I would say Northview which invariably goes well fresh was pretty forward on friday night
Report Craig The Speculator July 27, 2014 9:38 AM BST
interesting to see how it turns out
Report Lets Elope July 27, 2014 9:46 AM BST
on face value craig think Northview may have come back a bit stronger and more mature racehorse but time will tell as there's no doubt at times he's shown real potential but has also been very disappointing on occasion.

What i think anyway
David Hercules is like Flashing Red
Report Aussie Driver July 27, 2014 11:26 PM BST
Craig ............. in a race from even draws how would you price up David Hercules against Keayang Cullen and Restrepo?

I would say something like:

KC 1.7
RE 6.0
DH 6.5

leaving a little % for the rest

I think Lloydy quoted unders DH actually
Report Lets Elope July 28, 2014 3:08 AM BST
he has far more high speed than Flashing Red
Report Lets Elope July 28, 2014 3:30 AM BST
lloydy I agree keyang is going well but Restrepo clearly isn't at this stage of his prep and appears well below his best and am yet to see anything from Magical Telf that suggest he's a real top horse for mine, (albeit I haven't seen  a lot of Magical Telf but what I've seen certainly hasn't grabbed me) Keyang got a 61.2 first half that's walking in anyone's language for that class of horse in front well at least it is in WA so naturally he's run home very quick as you would expect a horse of ability to do with that sort of run in front.

Give David Hercules the same run in front and he wins just as easily if not easier for mine.

Think Keyang's a nice horse who's definitely continued to improve but doubt he could withstand the pressure that David Hercules would apply to him and still win and while they may well end up bringing each other undone if that was the case I would still give the nod to David Hercules but that's mere conjecture at this stage but I would confidently say that David Hercules could sit on Keyang's back and get over him and while I wouldn't be confident that Keyang could do the same to him with both getting those sort of sectionals.

Not much depth in those races when the leaders can get away with a 32.3 second quarter mate that's either tactically bereft from the other drivers or an indication that those horses can't do the necessary work to pressure to at least keep Keyang honest in front and still win the race.
In saying all this think Keyang in its current form would have been far more competitive than Mach Beauty and Suave Stuey were in those Qld races, avonova was probably a shade unlucky that it didn't have the chance to lead in one of those races otherwise it probably would have pinched one.

For a Reason to lead and Hand up, Lauren Panella to come around and at all cost try to Lead (Got that part wrong). Abetorpunt to sit back and await Fireworks to stop then get a Cart up into race.
On Straight Abetorpunt and For a Reason (2 Class horses draw away) Aranova Gasping for breath.

Im laying Bitorbliss today for small and backing Hes Kinky at Kilmore.
Cup is not as easy as it looks. Ill be looking for Value and Covering for a Proffit.

The McCarthy's winning the Cup with either For A Reason or Seel N Print would be one of my saddest moments in the sport
I'm praying it just doesn't happen, that smug look Luke McCarthy gets post race would send me into a meltdown from which I may never recover
no matter how good a sprint you have two miles run in around 4 minutes at Addington can take it out of you

he may never win a group 1 who knows but it's been a great ride from where he was at

exactly craig......like I keep saying it's a great story......and you hardly see any free legged pacers these days
I've always been a fan of them.........I can't remember one that raced in NSW since the 1980's

Hats off to the Avonnova cheer squad.  Big win.  A bit of humble pie for me and I will finish it if he takes the Miracle Mile.  Still an outstanding buy and you blokes have been in his camp for some time.  Nice work!

very well played leftie, hats off to you......but its Craig who deserves it, he kept the faith....I didn't back him tonight as all the Trittons worried me

thanks Leftrightout (and village) i did 5 star rate your reply Left

we all can get things wrong - somewhere in this thread i said northview punter may be contesting group 1's and last night it couldn't place behind whos mistake in a run of the mill FFa

no worries, you have to say when you got it wrong (as I did well and truly here) and you should get a wrap when u get it right.  Tuesday will be great and the Miracle Mile should be awesome too.  Really hoping Dexter Dunn can produce something good on Tuesday.  Talking through my kick as it would be a big effort for TTL to win again

what about that NZ meeting during the week

looked like Oakbank on steroids and the ocean as a backdrop
Report Lets Elope November 8, 2014 12:12 PM GMT
Should be a ripper race as per usual, however the team driving possibilities if they eventuate could prevent it from being a great spectacle.

Just watched the replay, another tactical "gem" of a drive from that "gun" driver Panella, I seriously doubt if she could even spell the word tactics, let alone have any comprehension of its meaning. Well done Craig by the way, hope you got plenty.

Craig the meeting you refer to is Kiakoura Cup day, it's a small coastal town a couple hours north of Christchurch famous for Crayfish, Seals and Whale watching
they have one meeting a year and last Monday was the 100th Anniversary, it always brings back a flood of memories
There are some excellent surf breaks nearby to the north and south and I first surfed there when I was 12
as a teenager we would try to sleep on the hay in the barns at the track but most times we would get busted and kicked out

every trot fan should have Cup Day at Addington on their bucket list and ideally get there early to fit in Kiakoura Cup day

Cup day in Christchurch is something special, unlike Melbourne Cup day it's not just about one race, the races on that day
have remained the same for as long as I can remember with the Junior FFA (used to be the Firestone FFA), the Trotting FFA and the 3yo Sires Stakes

not to mention the body painting Love
