I did not realise Australia Day had been moved to April 1.  Boy those first three months went fast this year.  What a disgrace.

it is one of the most disgusting things I have ever heard.  Not usually something I'd even give a second glance about but in this case you have to have a whinge.

in reality PVL ffs ... disgraceful misuse of a nomination

---

and the process ...

Nominations to the General Division of the Order of Australia come directly from the community.

Every nomination is then considered by the Council for the Order of Australia.

The Council makes recommendations direct to the Governor-General.

PETER V’Landys, the Racing NSW CEO, has been recognised in today’s Australia Day honours.

V’Landys was made a Member of the Order of Australia in the General Division.

He was honoured for significant services to horse racing through a range of executive roles.

Racing NSW chairman John Messara AM said that the board was extremely proud that V’landys’s outstanding efforts on behalf of the thoroughbred racing industry had been recognised with this honour.

“I have worked closely with Peter and I’ve been impressed by his loyal and dedicated service and his contribution to the thoroughbred racing industry,” Messara said.

Couldn't have said better it myself Apache, wonder if he's ever going to be called on the fact that he knew better than every veterinary expert around the country and guaranteed that racing in NSW would get EI when he gave permission for Randwick to be opened not once but twice on consecutive days when every other training centre in the country was shut, but not Peter he knows better than everyone.

At last count how much has that little episode cost the racing and breeding industries???

Then he adds further insult to injury when questioned about how EI got into the country in the first place at a media conference soon afterwards when he jokes that a Japanese tourist must have bought it in.

Yeah EI was a real laughing matter wasn't it Pete.

Yep have to agree Pete's been a wonderful servant of the industry, done an absolute bang up job.

Right or Wrong he certainly fought for many years with a passion.  Fighting like that for so long can harm ones health.

He is on the wireless now, does not want to see the take out rate reduced as it would only benefit professional punters.

genius imo Laugh

there must be a mensa award in the wings for pete now

... hang on .. pro punters bet plenty .. reduced take ... punters might invest more .. turnover goes up

i don't know ... it's all too much for me Confused

pete knows best

just give him another award i reckon ... john is probably investigating a new award now that he can get the breeders to nominate pete for and vote for

his explanation of all the wonderful good he's done for racing, protecting it valiantly from the evil of sports betting in particular and then being responsible for all those "objectors" now having rightfully lost their jobs........ was some of the funniest breakfast radio i've heard for ages. A clown disguised in a business suit.

Even by Pete's standard of complete and utter incompetence that is incredible, reduced margins that encourage a greater return increase investment upon anything.

PVL is doing a great job, just ask Tabcorp and the breeders.
Did he mention the 10 cents in the dollar kickbacks given to some professionals as being of benefit to them? That is of far more benefit to them than reducing the takeout by 1 or 2 cents.
At least now we know we know what he meant when he said the tab should increase takeouts, it was to make it harder on the pro's, oh no it wasn't because he said if they increase takeout by a couple of cents the punters wouldn't know, he must of meant the mugs, as the pro's aren't to bad at maths.

Fair chance in time will get a plum job at Tabcorp in time...still he was passionate.
Polititions are worse and no passion.
