A few years ago I used to have a bit of a flutter on in running horse racing markets from the local pub as they had satellite skyracing. Now that Sky Racing has switched off their analog services and moved completely to a delayed digital broadcast, is this the end of in running betting being possible in Australia? There is of course the option of going to the track and betting on the 8 races there, but it would be impossible to bet on the other 80 or so elsewhere. There already seems to be hardly any liquidity in markets. If anyone does still bet on in running markets, how do you manage with the delayed broadcast or is there some way to get quicker pictures?
read something on the general betting thread the other day about how liquidity was falling away and someone mentioned in-running was falling away and blamed the delayed pictures
makes sense - doesn't make point if you can't see the live

It may be true that in the UK it's falling away, but haven't noticed too much difference here than 2-3 years ago. There's still plenty of opportunities...people are still keen to back horses at very low odds when seemingly home. Around 8k (16k matched)was lost between 1.02 and 1.11 in the last 2 races at Bendigo (races 5-6).
Yes, it's hard to back a non-favourite in the run for much; short-priced favourites are the pinnacle.
As for faster pictures, I don't much. But what I do know is analog radio is still your friend.

Of course there has been a way to beat the 5 second delay for the past 3 years aussiebob by viewing skyracing via satellite, but on the 20th of December 2013, they switched off their analog signal, so now sky satellite is delayed an extra 1-2 seconds and there is no possible way anymore, besides being at the track

Hi I am glad there could be a extra 1 or 2 sec delay I will make more. Do your research and invest in technology if you wish to win. LAY LAY LAY the only way to win year in year out.
HAPPY NEW YEAR

Harness has to be the main vehicle for IN PLAY betting, particularly on the big tracks where things unfold relatively slowly - things happen too fast in the other codes !!??!! The liquidity is usually all about the leader, but give it a try some time ??!!??

Logically you are right Trotman, but the liquidity in the in play markets make it almost a non event, and as you say often only centres around one runner. Try backing a legit 10/1 shot in play, impossible until it is definitively gone.

AD -- please don't take this as a gloat -- but it is possible.
Major Frank a few starts back at Menangle was $17 pre post, then once it settled behind the leader it traded at $20 at the bell.
Got the inside split and WON !
Brave Wiggy the other day was around $3.50-$4.00 pre post, traded at $3.60 in running as it sailed to the front off the arm. Hundreds on offer there for a moment.
Sometimes it's people who have got longer odds and want to improve their average ???
I agree there is poor liquidity .... but Trots needs something that differentiates it from the other two .... it could be it's trump card ???
Good luck to all in the New Year.

You have highlighted certain circumstances, but surely it is very rare to be able to find money around like you have identified where the horse is in the 'right spot'?
Albeit I don't try to bet in play unless there is something in particular I am looking for, so don't keep an eye on a lot of in play markets. I take the view that the fastest finger game is very hit and miss.
You talk of trump cards, I thought your service might have been the answer
