Amajorjo is a horse on the way up so barrier 1 over a mile looks ideal until you spot kamikaze beginner Garnet River out in 5, a horse whose only purpose in life often seems to be to lead at all costs. It's 60/40 that he would hand back up to Amajorjo after getting to the front and $2.25 seems reasonable if he does get it back, but clear unders if he doesn't. Not a race to get to carried away on, that was last week.

So Fernleigh Renegade is coming out fast and Bettor Bet Black is one of the fastest beginners around too so the start of this will be very interesting. Punters are backing Amajorjo like he's a put in take out prospect but obviously he'll have to earn this. Is he up to that? Maybe.

One of the most important things about betting in harness racing is figuring out which horses the melling are backing and staying off. Amajorjo started $1.50 because Saturday night punters love to back favourites even more than Garnet River loves to lead. They couldn't care less about odds.
The fact that it's belting down rain would seem to help Bitobliss, cause their decision now is between going to the death and hoping the face isn't too frantic, or easing back to last and being a million to one. I'm prepared to right off Mach Beauty (who led throughout to bolt in in this race in April) cause surely it'll be stuffed after two extremely tough runs in the last two weeks. |

In the next Melton trot favourite paparazzi Snapshot has had 5 runs at Melton and never finished better than 10th, so good luck backing it.

good drive l mcarthy - tim butt/handbrake should take a lesson

Peter Rothaker and Gazoline are worth an honourable mention in any I Must Lead At All Costs discussion. He knows no other way. Lighning Joy was certain to win if Gazoline held up but Peter preferred to hold the front and come last of all the horses who didn't gallop. Lighning Joy was a big run for second and you would be utterly spewing if you laid it but surely not surprised. Brylin Crescent continued her good form when she behaves to win nicely.
Paparazzi Snapshot appears to be utterly hopeless at Melton and broke twice before disappearing off the screen, never to be seen again. In the next at Melton the lemmings are all piling onto the extremely talented Metro Mike who will go very close but is no value at all. Just one to watch. |
|
By:
Typo: Utterly spewing if you **backed** Lighning Joy. Deleriously happy if you laid it.
|
|
By:
Lemmings burnt yet more cash with Metro Mike settling last and looking a thousand to one at best.
Big one coming up! Restrepo has had one run at the track for a third to Christen Me and Smolda (whatever happened to Smolda?). Given it's clearly stepped up this prep you could make a good case for backing it. For A Reason a very good horse but just too short. The heart says I would love BoB to win but can't back it from out there. Hope he death seats and gives a great sight. I reckon Mach Beauty will lead and collapse. Trainer currently telling us it's backed up 'really good' but they never say anything else. |

think smolda broke down

Best drive I have seen this year G Lang ....... There was no way For a Reason or Bitobliss could run him down given the circumstances. Cracking drive
|
|
By:
Good drive to probably change all his plans on the run.
No way would he have expected to land there. Brave Wiggy would have crossed the pole then let Mach Beauty go. Seems the mobile couldn't get away from Mach Beauty --- if so it should actually be a NO RACE ??? |

ALL CLEAR -- how come they don't sort everything out that fast ???

Keystone Del is 4 classes above this field and should destroy them, except for the wet. Nice late gee up by Greg Hayes to destroy the price though. :(

Great to see one of Harness Racings best judges 'Tara' Tom Hogan, win with his 2 horses tonight, & Team Tonkin winning with 3. 'Tara' would be one of the best judges I've ever had the pleasure of meeting...... Great judge & a great bloke, hope both horses aim straight to the top.
As for Grant Dixon, champ this is the big league, keep that Cream Puff Qld Champion, up there cause this is the big league, you just stay in Qld where you have 5 in every race. themaster007 |

great to see restrepo delivering in the big time, has been an exciting horse since his 1st start
got to feel for connections of PM he would have brained that field last night, racing is incredibly tough but to have them go amiss a week before their comeback is terrible |
|
By:
Im Corzin Terror was awesome again on the clock last night. Don't have his individual splits yet but looks like he was home in around 55.5 after making an early move around the field. Very impressive stuff.
That should be a very good form race, thought there were a few excellent runs there |
