Very strange race at Mornington today. The horses which you would expect to be the market leaders drifted alarmingly in betting especially Kentucky Gem. Kentucky Gem ended up around $7 on Betfair from a opening price around $3 (on course $4.60 from $3)
Very strange ride from the jockey on Kentucky Gem who went for an inside run and found lots of trouble in a 7 horse field Last start came around and the field and just missed. Equally Frankly Fast did not get a run the last 300 metres.
The 2 gambled on horses (Kim Success and Motific ran 1st and 2nd).
All the other horses that drifted significantly in betting ran into trouble. Coincidence?
Watched the race live & wasnt concerned and after watching the replay again I dont have any problem with Mallyon's ride - the horse raced a bit ungenerously early & the gap it went for top of the straight simply closed on it, not much the jock could do there.
That said I stopped betting on races with 7 or less runners yonks ago after getting burnt by one too many boat races, but I dont think yesterday was an example of one.
