after reading garnet river is being set for the miracle mile the grand circuit stocks hit a real low point on monday (worse than anthony cummings saying hes been happy with drago)... but bit of a legend is back tonight, adore me 2nd up, border control, majestic mach, guaranteed, ohoka punter, franco nelson all back soon, i think we'll see this lot up to GC class very very soon

spot on unclee - add to that list Alta Christiano and it was the best crop of 3yo's in the last decade

yeah forgot about him, his run in the sales race as a 2 yr old was phenomenal in defeat

Good thread.

It has been thin at the top for while but with the massive depth in that group the next three years of Grand Circuit racing looks something to be excited about

might not have to wait too long with the 3yo of this season - unbelievably (though a lot can happen before they turn 4)

cant believe TTL not in the noms for Hunter Cup, would have annihilated that field with the form he's in...

interdom heat too close to hunter cup may have kept TTL at home

a shame about alta christiano, the hall's sure do seem to break alot down

Vic Derby Factors
1. In last 12, 7 have been won by the Breeders Crown champ - 4/12 didn't contest the BC, the other ran 3rd
2. 5 of 12 winners were beaten in their heats, 4/5 were off light lead ins (lombo pocket watch is the exception)
3. the last 2 kiwis to win it both were beaten in their heats and 1st up in Aus (3/12 have been won by kiwis)
4. 9/12 had a brief Nov/Dec campaign, 2 starts or less

Vic Derby Preview
BC    LeadUp    Nov/Dec Camp.    Kiwi 1st
Maxim          4th    1    3              Y

- Bling it On as BC champ has already beaten the top contenders in a huge race
- Aussie Driver goes nuts about this every year but the heats are used as a lead in race by trainers
- Lettuce rock them probably had an issue to have been raced so lightly over christmas but he will be peaking perfectly for this and he's the one i'd want to be on prepost

Not in same league as chokin, must have been pissed writing that
By:

When: 25 Jan 14 01:52
Agree ........ Chokin was a genuine freak of the sport. I am not sure Bling It On is even the best of the McCarthy batch going forward

Come on Lloydy you are better than that

boom kiwi 4yo son of Christian Cullen SAVEAPATROL wins his 10th race at start 13 out sprinting Terror To Love
at the end of the two mile Invercargill Cup today.......has flown under the radar for most but would make plenty take note now
By:

When: 25 Jan 14 07:27
and by the way CHOKIN was a freak but has to rate NZ's #3 3yo in my life time after Auckland Reactor and Courage Under Fire
who were both unbeaten and unbeatable.....Chokin wasn't, got beaten by Bonamax in the Gawler Derby ffs

who's the best current nz 3 yr old VK, locharburn? looks a bit dumb atm
By:
Village Kid
When: 25 Jan 14 08:57
I concur with Locharburn especially when he learns to be a race horse or maybe he's just too dumb like you say
the top 2yo's from last season like Sky Major, Maxim and Cyclone Prince don't seem to have stepped up
maybe Isiah is underrated and may kick on
there's probably one in a paddock somewhere that we've never heard of who's gunna blow them all away

and what about 4yo Brigadier Bronski downing the glamour duo of Majestic Mach & Caesar Augustus at the creek yesterday
gave them wind burn as he breezed on by, clocked his last two quarters 26.5 27.7 for a 54.2 half (rounding up)
came from last running a sensational last 600 in 40.6 three wide

MM's first defeat in Queensland and ruined his 100% 13/13 at the track and CA's AP record of 10/11 is now 10/12

Bonamax!  Bit before my time but is he not the horse who we have to blame for all those disgusting Melton things that go around in Qld.  Filthy things.
By:

When: 30 Jan 14 04:53
lol LRO.....there's hundreds of those pesky things.....most with career records of about 100 starts for 5 wins
I get so confused with the Melton SomethingMax/MaxSomething......it's worse than Lombo Everything, Everything Lombo

but derrrrrrrr how did I forget Kiwi 3yo Tiger Tara, has looked super sharp this season
should be here for the Vic Derby instaed of racing at Addington tomorrow night

I think maxim hands up to LRT because kiwis love to hand up, LRT wins from there

I just can't see a kiwi holding the front, I mean he handed up at the bell last week
By:
Aussie Driver
When: 04 Feb 14 02:49
How many times have we said heat night is completely different tactically? No way he hands up at that point last week if it were final night
By:
uncleee
When: 04 Feb 14 03:14
if i owned maxim id be holding at all costs and id tell the media all week exactly that
but i just see mcarthy having a look at maxim and zac handing up and mcarthy probably hands up to bling it on at the bell
By:
Aussie Driver
When: 04 Feb 14 03:46
The last part of your statement is exactly why I can't possibly see Maxim handing up. Crazy if they do
By:
uncleee
When: 04 Feb 14 04:39
it was bit tongue in check, if snr mcarthy finds lead on LRT and then hands up to BIO the punters should storm the track
at this stage i wont be betting, cant see any opportunities in the early market, maybe lay BIO if he stays that short as he will need a low percentage play to be winning from the draw
By:
Aussie Driver
When: 04 Feb 14 04:48
Tongue in cheek? You speak as if the McCarthy's have never done that sort of thing before.

I will be betting for sure, love the way this draw has fallen
